It is Time to Stand Up to China

Do you remember when China was accepted into the World Trade Organization in 2001? Presidents Clinton and Bush, as well as many other public policy leaders, predicted that it would improve the U.S.-China trade balance and would encourage China to abandon communism for free-market capitalism, both of which would benefit America.

I don’t know how they got it so wrong. After 15 years, we can say from experience that none of those predictions have come true.

The U.S. deficit with China has ballooned from $83 billion in 2000 to $366 billion in 2015. This is a total of $3.6 trillion in deficits with China. During this same period, the U.S. lost 5 million manufacturing jobs.

They said it would improve the trade balance.


Why? I thought trade deficits didn't matter?


And then it the opposite of their stated goals happened. Doesn't that mean it's a failed policy? So why not reverse it?

They expect to market their goods here without opposition but for 14 years didn't allow our beef into their markets...........

Just as an excellent example...............not to mention doubling the price of our chicken there to prevent sales there......

Plenty of examples already given..............Blanket Tariffs might not be the right response but counter duties against China are the only option to force them to the table and allow FAIR TRADE BETWEEN THE COUNTRIES...............

Much like Japan and South Korea. Yet American economists seem to always sing the praises of Free Trade.

i agree with free trade 100%, but China abuses it. They steal our intellectual property wholesale. They steal movies and show them to Chinese audiences without paying for them. They steal our patents. They publish copyrighted books without paying royalties. They ship aluminum to Mexico so they can send it accros the border without paying duty on it.

South Korea does the same thing. I had a friend in college who went to South Korea and bought all his text books for almost nothing.

Whether you like it or not...........Trump is taking the fight against unfair trade against the United States to the arena.............

Whether you agree on blanket tariffs or counter duties to offset the FRANKLY illegal activities of China in our mutual trade under the WTO...

Because of the WTO we have to go to court to settle disputes with China all the time and then the WTO doesn't fairly punish China when they simply don't comply.............

Which is why I have NEVER AGREED TO FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS. We are a sovereign nation and we should negotiate Trade as a Sovereign Nation directly with countries around the globe.................Not a MICKEY MOUSE WTO COURTROOM............That doesn't really hammer down when countries don't comply with the court orders.....................

We should withdraw from the WTO and go back to the way the Constitution told us to deal with Trade issues...............Whereby it is a give and take process with countries like China until an agreement was made.................

In recent times.............Finally........after a 14 year ban on our beef sales to China.......they are allowing U.S.D.A beef into China...........and now we are buying their Chicken.........but at the same time they put Anti-dumping on our Chicken sales there at over 100%. Next is the FDA concerns with China's industry..........they have LONG NOT COMPLIED with SANITARY AND SAFETY STANDARDS that are compatible to our FDA requirements.................Shouldn't our country have the right to say............IF YOU SELL IT HERE then you will meet our standards of producing chicken there............but why the hell should we buy their chicken anyway when we produce enough of it here..........

These are just examples of how we are being screwed..............and our President.........and our Senate..........and our Congress have a RESPONSIBILITY to deal with this situation...........That's their JOB.................and they have failed miserably at it for decades...............
