The hard core Repbulican base never wants to hear the word 'compromise'. They want to force their views to be policy of the government. You can hear it in what Huckabee said re abortion. He basically said the Supreme Court's decisions don't mean anything and need to be ignored.

This is it, they are generally on the losing end of new laws and policies simply because the population has changed and will continue to do so.

Conservatives don't want change. period.

So the hard core want someone that will force their views on the country, pure and simple. Unfortunately it won't happen. Demographics are right at the tipping point where Republicans will be lucky to win national office.
