Concealed carry gun owner keeps killer from fleeing scene of shooting....

Shooting at persons leaving the scene is not action that should be generalized. In such situations things can be very uncertain. Shooting someone imminently threatening another or actually firing is one thing. Coming upon a partially witnessed scene and firing on people moving about, whether or not they are armed, is too risky, especially for amateurs. Some could be plainclothes police, or they could be other 'good guys'. It could be a training exercise. It could be film or video being made. It is one of the dangers of 'carrying' to be too ready to use. What's more, porting a piece often results of only thinking of it to use, when another way could be found. Furthermore, if confronted and threatened, one may fear that not to use would be to lose the weapon. If not armed, one might be able to walk away with an insult perhaps and nothing more serious. It is a grave decision to go about armed. Trained by a policeman for a father and hunting with relatives, firearms are very familiar to me, and I rather like them. Not everyone is suited to having them.
This situation, if reports can be trusted, seems to have worked out O.K., but it would have been better if the dead man had been taken alive so we could at least have a glimpse of his thinking.
