Chris Hayes Envisions A World Where No One Has A Job Mining Coal

We have enough coal in the ground to provide cheap energy for the next 500 years. We're burning it far cleaner than we ever have...and if we really put our mind to it...we could do so in an even cleaner fashion.

And in case you hadn't noticed...the same people who want to do away with coal...also want to do away with the fracking that's given us so much natural gas...not to mention their reluctance to build additional nuclear power plants. So WHERE exactly is your replacement energy going to come from if you succeed in banning coal fired power plants, Joey?

Won't do us a lot of good if the planet can't sustain human life in 500 years because we saturated the atmosphere with carbon that took millions of years to accumulate in a century.

And, yes, not trusting the rich when they offer us energy is probably prudent, given the long history bad behavior on their part.

Well since most of the coal currently being mined and consumed to create energy is coming out of China and India...neither one of which has even close to our level of cleanliness when it comes to burning coal...an INTELLIGENT person would recognize that the only thing that's REALLY going to save our planet would be to develop the technology to burn coal cleanly and then sharing that with countries like China and India who will continue to burn more and more of it regardless of what we do!

But you're not intelligent...are you, Joey?

With one breath you rant about carbon being bad for the health of Americans and then with the next you declare that you're ready to dump nuclear waste on the Southern States. You're a joke, Joey! A whiny, ignorant, joke!

They're more than welcome to develop that technology for India and China.

We dont need that shit here, though.

Well, you see, the point is, the worst that could happen to the South would be they'd all turn into mutants.

ANd frankly, who'd notice the difference?

You call technology that would allow us to cleanly burn a source of energy that would sustain the US's energy needs for 500 years..."shit"? Really, Joey?

Coal is the cutting edge energy source of the 19th century, dude.

So you would turn your back on a source that would supply the US with cheap energy for the next 500 YEARS because it's not "cutting edge" enough for you?

That's stupid even for you, Joey! No wonder you've never been your own boss...you're not smart enough to pull it off!

Guy, an energy source that destroys our ability to live on the planet is not 'cheap'.

Yes if we continue to use oil, all life on the planet will die..DIE, I tell you!..This is SERIOUS!..LMAO

obstructing and hampering exploration and production of the main sources of energy on the planet only hurts america and americans.

and wind/solar isn't efficient and doesn't produce power as efficiently and reliably as coal or oil.

Coal and oil are the way the world runs (and will continue to run for quite some time yet)...get used to it or get over it.

Look...joe is trying to change the subject...again...Same trick, different day... It didn't work yesterday, joe..it didn't work the day before, it didn't work last week......why do you think no one will notice today?

that's how you can confirm you made a valid point with joe... he bails out and tries to change the subject....

So we should destroy the planet in order to make life a little better for ourselves? Is this what you're saying, buddy?

LMAO...See what I mean about framing the discussion so it favors whatever nonsense you're pushing today?

Great choice you "give" us, joe...
We can either stop using coal and oil today and abandon all current technology... but survive as a species.....or continue to use oil and coal and all life on earth will perish...

LMAO...you're funny, joe.

It's not the use of oil that's the problem it's the amount we use. As in we make up 5% of the world's population and account for 25% of its usage. We use up more oil than China, Russia, India and Japan combined. And, yes, it dumb rednecks driving their SUV's that get 10 miles to the gallon that are a large part of the problem.

Oil consumption can be reduced, and coal consumption can be eliminated. But guys like the Koch brothers make too much money off of it and they spread disinformation to dumb-ass Cleetuses like you who don't understand science.

You can go ahead and post your source for that wild claim any time, joe...

Oil consumption can be reduced, and coal consumption can be eliminated.

Yes we know about obamas war on efficient energy production. He told us in his campaign he wanted european type prices on gas and he said he'd bankrupt the coal industry.

obama said:
So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
barack obama Jan. 2008

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It’s just that it will bankrupt them.

Obama 8217 s energy policy Turn out the lights and pray for wind Hot Air

Coal provides 49% of domestic electrical power, and any rise in the cost of producing that energy will raise its cost to consumers and reduce the amount produced.

Obama already called for a 15% reduction in demand for electricity — at the same time he and his allies want transportation to switch from gasoline to electricity.
Obama never explained this particular contradiction. How does one switch tens of millions of vehicles from gasoline to electricity while not Increasing demand, let alone by cutting it 15%? And when trying to break free from a recession, the nation will need greater production in energy, not a reduction.

But guys like the Koch brothers make too much money off of it and they spread disinformation to dumb-ass Cleetuses like you who don't understand science.

Now we get to the point of the post...class envy, jealousy and the obligatory name calling...
Really effective way to debate, joe...
