Childless by choice

Wages today dictate people cannot afford to have kids. As workers continue to take it on the chin this trend will grow. It's a brave and very courageous decision to choose not to have kids because it's nobody's duty to have them for the good of the country. Have them if YOU truly WANT them.

OH BULL CRAP... you people.....

LOL.... you people are so mindlessly stupid.

My sister had 6 kids, and she doesn't work. Only her husband does, and he doesn't make that much more than I do.

I know guy that had 12 kids, and his wife didn't work.

You can easily have kids, working a low wage job.... it's called "ya don't need dat".

You don't need cable TV. You don't need a smart phone. You don't need a bunch of techy junk. You don't need a 55" wide screen TV. You don't need to go out to eat. You don't need to have a new car every 2 years.

You can live on very little. I know, I've lived on less than $20,000 a year for a decade. You don't need all kinds of stuff, that people think are 'necessities'.

Now I get it, more money makes things easier. But don't give me this crap that your income makes having a kid impossible.

People raised kids into adults in this country, when indoor plumbing was a luxury, and if you wanted a new dress, you had to sew it together yourself, and heat was a fire, and air conditioning was an open window.

But here in our modern spoiled brat culture, when everyone has automobiles and central air set to 72º year around.... now suddenly we just can't make it! We can't possibly handle a kid!

Are you insane? Did someone remove your spine before got old enough to leave the house?

Unbelievable.

There's a pastor, younger than me, and he told this story about meeting his wife in college. They decided to get married, and finish school together. So he did something crazy... he got a job. He paid for her schooling too.

And he was talking about how baffling it was to have all these spoiled brats in college come up and say "you can't do that! you can't pay for her college, and get married, and finish school together! It's impossible!"

What happened to all the "men" in our society? Where'd they all go, and how did they get replaced by all these lazy wimps saying they can't afford to do anything in life? Can't afford to pay for school. Can't afford to get married. Can't afford to have a kid. Is there a epidemic of spineless jellyfish in our western world??

I still want kids! Without baby momma being a professional child-support getter! The percentage is what..9% chance of success for that?

That growth is from immigration.

The fact is, if we actually ended immigration, we would be in the same situation as Japan, with a dramatically falling population.

Economic growth is slowing because the growth of population is slowing, even with immigration. Without the required economic growth, promises won't be kept. Since promises won't be kept and someone will have to pay the price, the people who are responsible for the slowing growth should pay the price.

Except social security is getting your own money back.

No it's not. Your money was spent by the government and gone.

Your money is gone.

My IRA is my money. I purchased those assets, and I own them, and they are my money. When I sell those assets, I'll get the money I invested back.

Your Social Security is taxes on other people.

IF what you said was true... that it was "your money" that you were getting back, then we could cut taxes, and you would still get your money.

The reality is, if the government cuts taxes, you will not get your social security. In fact, even if they don't cut taxes,.... if they simply are unable to borrow money, you will not get your social security.

Your social security check, is entirely based on taking money from working people. That's it. The moment the working people refuse to pay more tax, or the government can't borrow, you don't have a social security check anymore.

Meanwhile I'll still get my IRA or 401K. Because that is money based on owning assets. Not based on borrowing or taxing.

No, not at all. I'm just stating the facts. I wasn't suggesting that I'm going to be a billionaire with my 401K funds. I'm not. I don't earn enough to really have a huge 401K or IRA.

My point was simply to illustrate the difference between Social Security, and actually owning a real asset for retirement.

In fact, the US Supreme Court rules directly, that you do not have a right to Social Security. You don't own it. Social Security is simply a welfare program, and it can be cut like any other welfare program. And if the government doesn't have the money for it, you won't get it.

When Obama said that if the debt ceiling was not raised, that Social Security would be cut.... that wasn't a joke. That was reality. Obama told the truth on this. There is no "My money" in Social Security. There is no account with your name on it. There is nothing. It has no assets. Nothing that can be sold. Nothing that can be used to pay your social security check, if the government doesn't have the money.

A 401K, is actually an asset of some sort. Something that can be sold, and the money given to you as the owner of that asset. A 401K is "my money". Social security is not.

I know numerous people who have, at some point in their life, made the decision not to have children. Every one of them has had people give them grief over their choice.

What the hell is wrong with people? Why do they think they have a say in the matter?
sounds like you think people should just keep their mouth shut because you cant stand criticism,,,

its better for snowflakes to grow a pair and go somewhere they wont be offended,,,a small island would do it,,,

The only "snowflakes" I have ever heard complain about married couples NOT having children have been conservative christians.

I've even heard/read some of the state that if you don't have children you shouldn't be allowed to marry.

I have never once seen anyone, anywhere, ever, complain that other people didn't have kids.

Unless you mean more generally. I've seen people complain that Americans in general should have more kids, that's true.

But you are telling me, that someone somewhere, just randomly walks up to a couple, and says "why don't you have kids?" and then badgers them about it? Where? When? Who? I've never seen that.

I have on occasion complained that some people did have kids,,,

and thats only because I felt sorry for the children

I love my kids and cannot think of life without them but kids aren't for everyone. In fact many people should not procreate.

I've only seen it on line (message boards) or in media opinion pieces.

1. married couples without children are selfish
2. if they don't have kids they shouldn't be allowed to marry.
3. the only reason to marry is to have children

I am NOT suggesting that this is something I encounter daily or regularly
I am NOT suggesting that these are common sentiments emanating from any like-minded group of people.

I am merely stating that I HAVE read ( a handful of times over the years) (almost always from conservative christians)
that

1. married couples without children are selfish
2. if they don't have kids they shouldn't be allowed to marry.
3. the only reason to marry is to have children

You need a license to drive, get married, etc. Any idiot can have kids. Therein lies the problem.

Retirement systems need population growth to sustains themselves. If populations don't grow, then pensions won't pay out what has been promised. Therefore, people who don't have kids should get less SS.

what would be wrong with that??

nothing says we have to increase all the time let alone decrease,,,
Collectivism, and socialist programs can’t survive population stagnation; much less a decreasing tax base...

People should save for their own retirement and not let the government be involved

Sorry, you'll have to find another reason to try to insult me. I have children.

And actually, I think people should mind their own business and not worry about a personal decision some people make.
it was an observation not an insult

I got married late in life and don't have kids.
And it's no one's business but mine.

It is unnatural to not procreate. It is a normal human desire to propagate his/her species. To resist and refuse is abnormal.
I am abnormal. However I have chosen for very selfish reasons to not do so. I am a perpetual child who only seeks self gratification. I refuse to sacrifice for the benefit of race or culture. So, I have none.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. Everyone is different. I chose not to have my own kids, but helped raise someone else's. It's not for everyone, and I know several married couples whom have chosen to remain childless by choice. Yes, society puts pressure on couples, which I think is unfair. Life is a choice, and one should choose his/her own path, not let others do it for you.

Not if you value independence, freedom, an intrepid nature, with a sense of daring to risk achievement at the potential cost of your own peril. You know... The principle values this nation was founded on. Anyone possessing these values is not only hampered by socialist/collectivist governance; they are viewed as a direct threat to its continuation, and expansion.

Public education is a socialist program.

It's outside the most common behavior, but I don't know if I'd call it "unnatural" or "abnormal". Probably always been at least a few people in every society who just aren't geared for parenthood. Better they recognize it ahead of time.
Absolutely abnormal. Dare I say it's as abnormal as homosexuality as it results in the same result.
Stupid trolls.
