Censorship, American-Style

You mean like the Dixie Chicks?

What they have to teach you in college is that life is not fair. In the real world, unlike academics, you have to pay the piper. You get paid to be published and people don't like what you write....people stop paying you

Cry me a river PC

You seem overly concerned with my college education....

....did you miss having one?

All I know is what I learned in the sewer sweetheart...

It is still enough to see through the academic weakness of your posts.

Those must be special goggles that you have...that allow you to see features that aren't there, and don't exist.

Bet you're in the market for some of Jack's magic beans, huh?

The point is, my ideological pal, you cannot see any further than your Left-wing premises allow.

Must be due to all the time you spend in the primordial ooze in the sewer....but it certainly explains why you're so go at digging yourself into a hole.

Well, I must go now, my coach, Mr. Myagi, is helping me prepare for out next confrontation: wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off…

I see the leftist extremists are busily justifying the one-sided stupidity of academia.

This is not about 'academia'. It's about the right of free speech and whether it trumps the right of a commerical business enterprise to require employees to check their free speech at the door when they are doing WORK for PAY.

No, you guys are touting the right of academia to fire people who don't mouth crap they approve of...

Our schools are funded by tax dollars and are, in fact, supposed to be an arena of IDEAS. The one place where freedom of speech should be honored..and the one place where it isn't...is in American universities.

It isn't. I know that, but it's just a sign that the 1960s pigs like Ayers and Kinsey were right...control the students, and you have the nation.

I guess thong season is upon us

She worked for a trade magazine. Do you know what a trade magazine is? Do you know what a magazine is? Do you know what writers for magazines do?

[ Conservative don't want to silence liberals. .

Really?

Go to Sean Hannity's forum, sign up, and start criticizing Hannity. See how long you last.

Exactly. You are not allowed to be critical of any right wing personality in the entire Clear Channel catalog. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, et al. The Hannazis ban you immediatley.

This was not a college firing a teacher. This was a leftie web site that fired a blogger for not drinking the bongwater. No tax dollars involved. Don't be such a Drama Queen.

Interesting that some of Naomi Riley's critics branded her as a racist. Her husband is black.

Maybe that's why the leftie's hired her. They assumed she was one of them.

Oopsie!

Naomi Riley told the truth. Black Studies reflect intellectual bankruptcy and are a waste of professor, student and classroom time. If the school wants a dissertation about Black Midwifery, as if it was somehow separate and apart from hispanic midwifery, or asian midwifery, it belongs in an Anthropology class on midwifery in general.

So where are the USMB cons condemning that?

What do you do with a degree in "black studies"? Teach black people how to be black?

How is such a degree applicable to the real world and getting a job?

Actually, I'd like to answer that: there is a malignant force that has fractured Americans into bite-sized portions,...and lives and dies by identity politics.

1. “Under Horkheimer’s leadership the Frankfurt School attracted some brilliant scholars and intellectuals such as Theodor Adorno, Eric Fromm, Wilhelm Reich, Walter Benjamin, Leo Lowenthal and Herbert Marcuse. Like Trotsky, Luxemburg, Lukacs, Bela Kun and other notable European Marxists in the early 1900s, many of the Frankfurt scholars were secular Jews, a fact that the Nazis successfully exploited in their propaganda regarding a “Jewish conspiracy” of Communist intellectuals who were perverting German society."
”William S. Lind, “Further Readings in the Frankfurt School,”
in Political Correctness: A Short History of an ideology.

a. The Critical Theorists held a common commitment to Neo-Marxism and the belief that Western civilization has been an imperialistic and repressive force in human history – especially, Western Christianity. In their view, Western civilization was built on aggression, oppression, racism, slavery, classism and sexual repression.

b. Thus, there is a straight line from the Frankfurt School to the formation in many colleges and universities of programs, and departments of African-American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Feminist Studies, Peace Studies, and LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bi-sexual/Transgender) Studies.

Aha!

So...finally plumbed the depths of your reading material!

Mad...Playboy....Reader's Digest!
You've seen it all.....

Your opinion of what is or isn't the truth here is irrelevant. The issue is whether or not a magazine has the right to decide who writes for them.

Your tell is your resorting to bad jokes when you've lost the argument.

I will ask the question again:

How much of the five thesis did she read to make her determination?

"Scores of critics on the site complained that I had not read the dissertations in full before daring to write about them—an absurd standard for a 500-word blog post. A number of the dissertations aren't even available. Which didn't seem to stop the Chronicle reporter, though."
Naomi Schaefer Riley: The Academic Mob Rules - WSJ.com

She also said:

"Finally, since this is a blog about academia and not journalism, I'll forgive the commenters for not understanding that it is not my job to read entire dissertations before I write a 500-word piece about them. I read some academic publications (as they relate to other research I do), but there are not enough hours in the day or money in the world to get me to read a dissertation on historical black midwifery. In fact, I'd venture to say that fewer than 20 people in the whole world will read it. And the same holds true for the others that are mentioned in the piece."

So she wants to end abolish black studies based on summaries of 5 dissertations, without studying the discipline? Which I'm sure someone could argue after reading 5 Phd dissertation summaries on English or Anthropology. "Isn't calling for the abolition of those departments based on the dissertations, and then bragging that you haven't read any of them, journalistic malpractice?"

Ta-Nehisi Coates - Authors - The Atlantic

After they abolish 'black studies,' 'women's studies' should be next....

....unless they teach how to balance a checkbook, and parallel park....

"Recently, the Chronicle of Higher Education published a cover story called "Black Studies: 'Swaggering Into the Future,'" in which the reporter described how "young black-studies scholars . . . are less consumed than their predecessors with the need to validate the field or explain why they are pursuing doctorates in their discipline." The "5 Up-and-Coming Ph.D. Candidates" described in the piece's sidebar "are rewriting the history of race." While the article suggested some are skeptical of black studies as a discipline, the reporter neglected to quote anyone who is.

Like me. So last week, on the Chronicle's "Brainstorm" blog (where I was paid to be a regular contributor), I suggested that the dissertation topics of the graduate students mentioned were obscure at best and "a collection of left-wing victimization claptrap," at worst."

Had the criticism been of American foreign policy under President Bush, would Ms. Riley still be in her original position?

The answer is yes.

Thus, the the import of the OP is proven.

You may tap dance around that, or attempt any of your feeble aspiration, but the fact is clear.

In your posts, you are the validation of every negative I've posted about Liberals and Liberalism. You are a fraud.

Your inability to construct arguments based on your own analysis, logic, and critical thinking would suggest that whatever your education was,

it didn't help.

"The issue is whether or not a magazine has the right to decide who writes for them."

So that is the summary of your misunderstanding of this thread????

That explains so much of your blather!

From Prufrock: "That is not what I meant at all. That is not it, at all."

But then...you have no idea what Prufrock is, do you?
Yogurt has more active culture than you do.....

No...the thread is not "whether or not a magazine has the right..."

It is whether or not there is a form of censorship that emanates from the Left in this great nation....

and... quod erat demonstrandum.
