Capitalism Educated

Capitalism? Capitalism isn't even promoted in schools. The only thing US students excel in is pop-culture and self esteem. I bet the union organized public school teachers are the highest paid in the world and have the best benefit package and retirement system. Solution? Cut out the bloated Dept/ed federal bureaucracy and then figure out teaching priorities that don't involve a condom on a banana.

It is taught.

You wouldn't know this because you're not involved, except for heaving lobs from right field...

Education in many other countries is essentially free through university, but there is fierce competition just the same to qualify for the best schools.
Free compulsory education started very early in the US. It was not started by 'liberals' (whatever that means), it was started by those intelligent people who realized a real democracy can only exist with a literate electorate. America was served well by the system, which at the same time protected children from having to work at industrial jobs.
How things evolved to the point where kids exit high school and can't read a newspaper or even find the US on a world map is unbelievable, but the original principles of compulsory, free, non-religious education still apply. We need to educate people how to think, not what to think.
