Days after the Newtown shooting, a Brooklyn middle school in East New York was placed under lockdown when the school's principal heard gunshots nearby.

The New York Post reports that Monday morning students at JHS 218 were quickly placed into classroom cornersor told to lay on the floor. They remained there for nearly an hour.

"They took us all into the locker room and closed the door," said Arman Uddin, a 13-year-old student who was in gym class when the school went into a lockdown. "We were just sitting quietly and waiting. It’s the first time we had a lockdown. It was scary.”

No injuries were reported.

Also Monday morning, a school in Ridgefield, Connecticut, some 20 miles away from Newtown went into a lockdown after a report surfaced of a suspicious man carrying a rifle.

The report turned out to be a false alarm.
