It was a politically motivated pardon regardless. I realize he wasn't elected. He was installed after the resignation-in-disgrace of Nixon. Ford took office through the order of succession as VP after the resignation of Spiro Agnew and eventually replaced Nixon. That was why it was so scandalous. As I understand it there was no sharing of information. The DC grand jury did all the research and Smith had a Miami based Grand Jury rubber stamp it and issue the indictment.

Notably, the court also found that regardless of the status of a document in question (personal or presidential), the government maintains the authority to seize it under a warrant supported by probable cause.

Cannon is correct that they should be making a formal complaint and brining their accusations into a courtroom, where they will be expected to present evidence and give testimony under oath, on threat of purjury, instead of on the internet and television.

My view is that until Trump and his egal team are under oath, any accusations they make should be ignored. If they have the evidence they claim to have, they should be willing to take the issue to court.
