Obama Storms Out of Debt Ceiling Meeting

The guy is surrounded by yesmen and obama-worshipers like pelosi, and sees the cheerleader lib media all day, and he thinks he's god. So when he gets in a situation where someone is actually DEBATING him, he's stunned, and he takes his bat and ball and runs home to Mushelle. :lmao:

Republicans gonna get a black eye if dey don't make the wealthy pay their fair share o' taxes...

The debt ceiling and wrong-way Republicans
July 12, 2011 - Congressional Republicans appear poised to reject a broad victory for the cause of fiscal responsibility and limited government in favor of a narrow triumph over higher taxes
Following the dubious lead of their counterparts in Sacramento, congressional Republicans appear poised to reject a broad victory for the cause of fiscal responsibility and limited government in favor of a narrow triumph over higher taxes. At the GOP's insistence, reducing the deficit has become a precondition for increasing the debt ceiling, something that Congress must do soon to avoid degrading the government's credit rating and potentially triggering another global recession. But Republican lawmakers have dug themselves in so deeply against any form of tax increase that President Obama seems to be standing tall by comparison.

That's funny, given Obama's lack of enthusiasm in the past for closing the budget gap. He all but ignored the recommendations of his own deficit reduction commission, and his budget proposal in February punted on the long-term problems posed by Medicare and other entitlements. Now, however, Obama is calling for a "balanced" approach that would reduce projected deficits by $4 trillion over the coming decade. That amount may not be enough to keep the national debt from growing faster than the economy, budget analysts say, but it would significantly brighten the federal government's financial picture.

It's an open question whether a quick shift to governmental austerity is the right tonic for today's sluggish economy, especially with unemployment rising again and federal aid from the 2009 stimulus package drying up. Agreeing on a plan to shrink the deficit over the next few years, on the other hand, could keep the debt from growing to the levels that have hobbled Japan and crippled Greece. It would also eliminate some of the uncertainty (and the threat of enormous future tax increases) that may be deterring investment and limiting economic growth.

Tea party to GOP: We could make 'examples' of you over debt ceiling
July 15, 2011 - Tea party activists are closely watching the talks over raising the debt ceiling and putting the squeeze on moderate Republicans.
Right now, some Republican lawmakers in Washington may be wondering how to wiggle out from between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, they're staring at a possible financial nightmare if the nation's debt limit isn't raised. On the other, many are feeling the heat from tea party demands that bluntly warn: Vote against us and suffer political consequences. To be sure, Democrats are also under pressure from progressive constituencies who are pushing for more revenue in the form of tax increases -- and for them to stand firm against cuts to entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

But over its 2½-year existence, the tea party movement has placed its banner of less government spending at the center of the national conversation. So many activists are watching who's voting on what, even their conservative supporters in Congress -- and especially putting the squeeze on moderate Republicans. What they're saying around the country is, "Do not raise the debt ceiling. It's that simple. It's time for Congress to get its fiscal house in order," Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin told CNN. The group is the nation's largest tea party organization.

Martin explained that her group's supporters want a balanced-budget amendment, significant spending cuts and lower taxes. And they don't want the debt limit raised. This week, Tea Party Patriots' members and supporters are intensely calling various lawmakers: establishment Republicans, so-called "Blue Dog" Democrats and those freshmen Republicans elected to the House with tea party support. "I think that it's accurate to call it pressure," Martin said. "The other thing is, we're holding these ... freshmen accountable. A lot of these freshmen ran on the promise that they were not going to increase the debt ceiling. Now, they're in D.C. with all of their colleagues on the Hill. And they're buying into the company line, forgetting about the fact that the American people have elected them not to do that."

If they don't raise the debt ceiling they can balance the budget by eliminating all foreign aid, all subsidies, all medicare and medicaid to the undeserving (those who didn't contribute), bringing the troops home from the ME and EU and most other places.

If that doesn't balance the budget, then Boehner and Obama play "rock-paper-scissors" to decide if the debt limit gets raised. The GOP knows that taxes go up in 2013, so its a matter of getting spending cuts NOW.

The GOP is wrong that raising taxes kills jobs, the 1990s proved that. The 2000s proved that lowering taxes is a disaster. I prefer prosperity and a surplus.
