Vice President Biden is off on a six-day trade and diplomatic trip to India and Singapore.

"In India, the vice president will emphasize economic and strategic opportunities for our countries to work more closely together, bilaterally and across Asia," said a White House statement.

The vice president and wife Jill Biden land Monday in New Dehli; they will travel to Mumbai later this week.

"In Mumbai, the vice president will deliver a speech on U.S.-India relations and meet with business and community leaders and students," the White House said.

The vice president arrives Thursday in Singapore, where the White House says he "will emphasize the centrality of Southeast Asia in our regional strategy."

Biden "will visit a U.S. company and speak to economic opportunities in the region, including the importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Singapore's role as a hub for U.S. exports and investment," the White House said.

The Bidens will stop in Hawaii on their way back to the United States; they return to Washington on Sunday.
