Bernie Sanders wants the US to become Venezuela

Very thoughtful thread. You really made your case. Except nothing you posted even tries to connect Bernie's proposed policies...instituted in the US....with anything that has or is happening in Venezuela.

Awesome job.

You are absolutely right, Bernie's form of socialism is more similar to what they practice in Greece. And there fine, right?

No, Bernie's plan is more like Denmark:

Denmark has a stable population, social cohesion, a great educational system, energy independence, fine health care including free family planning, jobs and a retirement system for everyone, comfortable housing, lovely countryside and plenty of leisure time to enjoy it. In short, why wouldn't the Danish people be happy? They have built themselves a society that looks after their citizens and gives them many reasons to be satisfied with their lives.

Denmark: Small, Happy Prosperous Families -- In Contrast to U.S.

To be like Denmark is an impossible dream.......We are too big...too diverse....and populated with many idiots (as confirmed by this forum alone)......NO, my contention is that Sanders would like for us to emulate what most European countries have been able to do for their respective populations regarding health care, education and respect for our planet's ecology (whereas we have in this country a bunch of climate change denying nitwits.).

Show me where Venezuela believes in capitalism??? Social democracy does but it believes it should be regulated so it doesn't abuse the workers and the rest of our society.

Show me where Venezuela is working to educate their population at the college level?
Show me where venezuela is working to increase the standards of living for all most of western Europe.
Show me where Venezuela cares about giving healthcare to its population be they rich, middle class or poor! I don't see it!
Show me where Venezuela fights for the improvement of all their people! THe last time I checked it wanted to kill and dictate to the middle class in that country.

To compare social democracy to Venezuela is trashing a economic and political system that generates great amounts of wealth, living standards and a people that are generally better off. SO comparing it to Venezuala which is a dictatorship that favors one group over all the rest of their society is a damn lie.

Sander's progressive ideas match that of Denmark as far as health care, education, acceptance of all sexes and sexual orientations, and legalizing marijuana. They are VERY similar.

When you think about it pure capitalism without regulations is more like mexico or central American countries...Very small group of super rich men with a vast portion of the population super poor.

Social democracy gives the poor a chance to at least live in a home, own a car and live decently.

I am NOT mocking Denmark's progressive lifestyle and achievements.......Sanders is smart enough, however, to know that Biloxi or Omaha could never, ever be another Copenhagen.

....and in those places, the threat of a revolution is never far behind.

There is a long line of dead head left wingers who have praised Chavez, even those in academia.

Dead Socialist Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez was praised throughout his life by many figures in academia, journalism and Hollywood despite his brutal regime.

This praise included Salon writer David Sirota’s piece after the leader’s death, titled “Hugo Chavez’s economic miracle.” In British publication The New Statesman, a headline as Chavez was nearing death in January 2013 was “Hugo Chavez: Man against the world,” and its sub-headline read “As illness ends Hugo Chavez’s rule in Venezuela, what will his legacy be? Richard Gott argues he brought hope to a continent.”

This praise of Chavez by so many who enjoyed the benefits of living in a capitalist society while looking at the economic record of the late leader, as well as what his succcesor President Nicolas Maduro, has come undone.

Mexican NGO, the Citizens’ Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice, published its annual ranking of urban crime in January 2016, and found that in 2015, Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, was the most murderous place on Earth. Caracas has 119.87 murders per 100,000 people. Other than personal concerns for safety, Venezuelans suffer from lacking economic opportunity due to low oil prices and government mismanagement of the state-owned oil firm.

From 1998, when Chavez was elected, up until he died in March 2013, “oil output at Pdvsa [the state-owned oil firm] has fallen 25% from 3 million to 2.4 million barrels per day, despite the fact that Venezuela has arguably the biggest hoard of oil reserves in the world, at more than 500 billion barrels,” according to Forbes’ Christopher Helman.

OPEC reports that Venezuela has 24.9 percent of proven crude oil reserves as of the end of 2014 — Saudi Arabia comes in a close second with 22.1 percent. When comparing GDP per capita, however, Venezuela’s economic problems become devastatingly clear. Venezuela’s GDP per capita is $12,771.6 as of 2012, while Saudi Arabia’s GDP per capita is almost double at $24,883.2 for that same year.

Venezuela’s GDP, it’s fair to assume, has only gone down significantly since 2012 (since Venezuela has not provided The World Bank with more recent data), while Saudi Arabia’s 2014 data demonstrates only a slight dip of $24,406.5. An even more damning contrast is the small oil-rich Arab Gulf state of Qatar, which only has 2.1 percent of the world’s proven crude oil reserves, boasts a 2012 and 2014 GDP per capita of $94,407.4 and $96,732.4 respectively.

The economy will only get worse for Venezuela since the country will remain in a recession through the end of 2017, according to the country’s Vice President for the Economy Miguel Perez. The country’s economy shrank by 5.7 percent in 2015 alone, the second year of what will be a long-running economic downturn.

Despite the irrefutable evidence that Venezuela finds itself in an incredible economic hole entirely of its own making, several writers such as Wired’s Linda Poon, continue to peddle headlines like “Venezuela’s Economic Success Fueled Its Electricity Crisis.”

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan workweek for government employees was limited to four days a week and then two days a week in April to deal with electricity shortages. Daily four-hour blackouts across most of Venezuela was another policy implemented in April by the socialist government to deal with its self-made crisis.

Economic problems aside, Venezuela has faced a long-running political crisis. Mass protests in February 2014 were halted through repression and fear-mongering by government forces that arrested the U.S.-educated opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez. Venezuelans elected the conservative opposition coalition in December 2015 to take control of the country’s National Assembly, Venezuela’s equivalent of Congress, and it has been in a standoff with the government since.

Socialist Maduro has done everything in his power to stop conservative lawmakers. The power grab by Maduro has led to mass unrest in recent months, which has only further fueled the economic crisis, as oil markets have not reacted well to the potential instability.

Hollywood is full of brain dead socialists who praised the Chavez democratic dictatorship.

Sean Penn leads the charge

1. Sean Penn on Maduro’s ‘Proven Leadership’

After former President Hugo Chávez died in March 2013, the famous actor Sean Penn didn’t hesitate to voice his support for Chávez and Maduro, Chávez’s vice president.

Penn, known for his Oscar-winning roles in “Mystic River” and “Milk,” declared after Chavez’s death that “Venezuela and its revolution will endure under the proven leadership of vice president Maduro,” according to The Guardian (UK).

The actor extolled the late Chávez, releasing a statement saying “poor people around the world lost a champion.” Many Venezuelans has a far different opinion of the dictator, than Penn. After the strong man’s passing, the Miami Herald reported that throngs of Venezuelans who fled his regime danced and cheered, some declaring “Finally. We’re free,” or “We are celebrating freedom.”

Oliver Stone is a close second to those who supported this train wreck.

2. Oliver Stone Accuses Protesters of ‘Desire to Kill’

Academy Award winning director Oliver Stone has also endorsed Venezuelan socialism, recently criticizing protests against Maduro’s regime.

The Panam Post reported that Stone slammed the popular protests in Venezuela at a Feb. 15, Future of Freedom Foundation conference. Stone said “There seems to be a desire to reach out, to kill, to create disturbances in the street protests …” He even compared these protests to “the Republican Party here in the United States.”

Stone supported Chávez repeatedly. When the Venezuelan president died, Stone called him “a great hero to the majority of his people.” He also released a film in 2009, “South of the Border,” which praised Chávez, while media outlets including the Christian Science Monitor, New York Times and Huffington Post criticized his film’s pro-Chávez bias.

And perhaps the biggest moron of them all, Michael Moore.

3. Michael Moore Praises Chávez’s ‘Free Health & Education’

Liberal propagandist Michael Moore is another Academy Award-winning director who has gushed over Chávez’s socialist policies.

Moore, known for his left-wing issue films including “Bowling for Columbine” and “Fahrenheit 9/11” joined the crowds of liberal admirers and praised Chavez’s economic policies following the Venezuelan president’s death, according to Hollywood Reporter. Moore tweeted “Hugo Chavez declared the oil belonged 2 the ppl. He used the oil $ 2 eliminate 75% of extreme poverty, provide free health & education 4 all.”

Moore met Chávez personally in 2009. According to Moore, in that meeting Chávez said he “was happy 2 finally meet someone Bush hated more than him.”

Then there is Danny Glover. Now in defense of Glover, I hear he was given millions of dollars by Chavez to make a movie about a slave in Haiti. If so, then it could better explain his support.

4. Danny Glover Calls Chávez ‘Social-Champion of Democracy’

Outspoken liberal Danny Glover of “Lethal Weapon” fame also praised Chávez after his passing.

Glover told MSNBC website, “the Grio,” that he joined “millions of freedom-loving people around the world” in celebrating Chávez and called him “a social-champion of democracy, material development, and spiritual well-being.”

Glover appeared in Venezuela in 2012 to support Chávez’s election, releasing a video of the two men “boxing playfully” and embracing “in an affectionate hug,” according to Fox News Latino.

So we are depending on the "smarts" of Bernie to help avert eating out of socialist garbage cans?

I don't think Sanders wants to turn us into Venezuela, but he will, if elected. What he and the rest of the get it free crown cannot comprehend is that yes, you can pay for things and give things for free to people by raising taxes on people, but when the taxpayer base shrinks because people leave the country, what then? Venezuela, that's what.

Do you actually think you can reason with these people?

I mean, if they are not smart enough to look at history in regards to socialism, then how will Venezuela of today sway their fanatical ideology?

If we could bottle and sell the stark simplistic naïeveté "I here" in the last few posts...

Let's just say I know a certain Cincinnati first baseman who's perfected the art of the strikeout lately...

He may strike out a lot but at least his stupidity won't cause us all the at out of garbage cans.

Awesome job.

Bernie is preaching the greatness of socialism.

So what went wrong with socialism?

How many industries is Bernie Sanders proposing to take over?
