Bernie Sanders unveils plan to boost broadband access, break up internet and cable titans

It wont work giving the rest of the country free shit either.
Doesn’t really matter at this point. The government just prints the money. Why not give it to the poor and middle class, rather than the 1%?

They do give it to the poor and middle class, it's just that it's in the form of debt.Real wages aren't rising due to the effects of inflation so the plutocrats are giving the rabble the next best thing to maintain living standards, debt slavery.

However, Bernie's proposal is just another idiotic gub'mint control scam to have the federal government compete with private industry pursuant to VOTE BUYING. Contrary to what Bernie thinks people don't have a RIGHT to Internet Access and the Federal Government doesn't have the Constitutional Authority to set up it's own little monopoly to drive private industry out a given sector just because politicians like Bernie Sanders want to control it.

Yeah they give crumbs, while giving trillions to the 1%. We just can’t afford HC for all Americans, but we can afford trillion dollar wars and massive transfers of wealth to the rich.
Actually we can't afford either;

Health care is un-affordable because we're fat slobs that eat garbage and don't exercise thus creating demand for health care services that is outstripping supply.

We can't afford to keep being the policeman for the globe, because we simply cannot afford to pay the tab in blood & treasure, we only keep doing it because;

"War is the health of the state" -- Randolph Bourne

Bernie's plan would just end up being yet ANOTHER wealth transfer scheme from the lower echelons of the economic stratum to the upper because that's what federal government "programs" inevitably do. Government is the tool of the rich & the powerful, why would anyone want to voluntarily give it MORE POWER than it already has? At least the telecoms are constrained by competition, not as much as they would be without crony capitalism but still SOMEWHAT.

It’s the American Way.
It's the plutocrat way has been since the institution of the state was invented.
Can you imagine if Michelle Obama tried to encourage healthy eating habits among children by saying "we're fat slobs that eat garbage and don't exercise thus creating demand for health care services that is outstripping supply"??

..but she didn't say any of that shit you just said, but she did try to encourage healthy eating and exercise habits amongst young people -- and trumpers were still pissed about it....
Are you genetically incapable of just making a statement of fact without inserting some idiotic partisan reference or is it that you just don't know how?

Yes Michelle Obama had some worthwhile ideas about combating childhood obesity, unfortunately the situation continues to get worse not better.

Thoughts? Should big internet corporations be broken up?

Bernie Sanders unveils plan to boost broadband access, break up internet and cable titans

Bernie Sanders unveiled a plan Friday to expand broadband internet access as part of a push to boost the economy and reduce corporate power over Americans.

In his sprawling “High-Speed Internet for All” proposal, the Vermont senator and Democratic presidential candidate calls to treat internet like a public utility. His campaign argues that the internet should not be a “price gouging profit machine” for companies such as Comcast, AT&T and Verizon.

Just another Bernie's going to conjure up some more free shit out of thin air, pie in the sky proposal, somebody needs to keep the old guy away from the opioids.

Apparently nobody has stopped by his Dacha and let him know that we're broke and don't have the resources to fund his game of fantasy based economics.

"Should we or should we not follow follow the advice of the galactically stupid!" -- Lt. Daniel Kaffe, A Few Good Men
Yeah...the free stuff is reserved for the 1%. They deserve it. They get socialism but the rest of us, well, we are on our own.

What a great system!
They shouldnt get anything either.
That would be nice but we both know, that is not how it works.
Yep. And the more government gets involved, the more they get.

What a great system!

It works 100% of the time! Guaranteed! The political rulers immediately become as wealthy as if they were the founders of a hot IPO, the People, the ones who thought handing over their freedom, weapons and property to the Socialist Rulers was a "good idea" and would become "better off" wind up selling their kids and eating their pets.

I used to think Pinochet was a bad guy. Not any more

If our criminal government can afford trillions in wealth transfers to the wealthy and the war machine, they can afford HC for all Americans.

No they can't or should I say; if the trends in chronic disease (which is driven primarily by lifestyle choices) continue there won't be enough resources to provide care for even a majority of Americans over the next 2-3 decades and that's if we don't spend a penny on all the other bullshit government does.

The costs of providing care coupled with the cost in lost productivity will cripple the entire economy.

All this bickering over monkeying around with health insurance schemes is just smoke & mirrors, the problem isn't insurance it's demand for care increasing much faster than supply and providing "consume as much as you want, foist the costs onto somebody else" insurance just exacerbates the demand problem.

Here's one study I found enlightening if you're interested in learning more:

An Empirical Study of Chronic Diseases in the United States: A Visual Analytics Approach to Public Health

Excerpt:
"According to the Centers for Disease Control, in the U.S. alone, chronic diseases account for nearly 75 percent of aggregate healthcare spending, or an estimated $5300 per person annually. In terms of public insurance, treatment of chronic diseases comprises an even larger proportion of spending: 96 cents per dollar for Medicare and 83 cents per dollar for Medicaid. Thus, the understanding, management, and prevention of chronic diseases are important objectives if, as a society, we are to provide better quality healthcare to citizens and improve their overall quality of life."

Do you realize that we're subsidizing the production of UNHEALTHY foods at the federal level and it's the Dept of Agriculture that is one of the primary sources of nutrition disinformation?

This isn't a problem caused by profit motive, it has to do with SUPPLY and DEMAND, if you remove the profit motive, you'll further reduce SUPPLY. Who the wants to work or put capital at risk for free ? Are you suggesting that government take over the health care industry completely?

Yes Michelle Obama had some worthwhile ideas about combating childhood obesity, unfortunately the situation continues to get worse not better.
I know you dic suckers hate memory...but if you wasn't cheerleading the demonizing of what she did because of your genetic inability to not be a partisan hack -- things would have got better....

But as usual with you dic suckers -- you will vote against your own interest if your cult leaders tell you to.....
ROFLMAO! Who are you talking about? When did I ever "demonize" what she did with respect to childhood obesity?

You mindless hyper-partisan lemmings are too incredibly wrapped up in your own fantasy world to even recognize the audience you're attempting to insult with your vapid nonsense.

Yes they should be broken up. Money is political power in our corrupt government. These huge corporations have enormous political power. They are influencing elections, not the Russians.

We need another Teddy Roosevelt to break up these big corporations. Alas, I’m dreaming.

So we then give that power to the Deep State?
Those corporations are the Deep State...…

Did you vote any of those corporations into power?? Nope....so why should they be able to write policies for us? Because that is exactly what they do now....

I can not go to Target if I don't like target. I can not go to Mobil if i don't like Mobil. I can use Spectrum if I don't like Verizon.

Government I am stuck with.

It amazing how much power fools like you want in something that is becoming more and more unaccountable to the people it serves.
And if you stop being a party cheerleader, you can hold them accountable by voting them out....if you support candidates who actually support getting money out of politics, who actually support regulation against big pharma, big banks, big oil -- then come talk to me...

Right now, your apathy tells me you are A-OK with corporations writing our laws...

You elected them to write new laws. They’re letting corporations do it instead. – Center for Public Integrity

I live in a Democratic Controlled NYC. I vote Republican all the time. i am stuck with Dems because people accept the bullshit and chickenshit to get a few things they want.

At the federal level it is even worse because voting in someone who agrees with me will do NOTHING to remove the bloated federal bureaucracy that makes most of the boots on the ground rules I have issues with.

But keep railing against corporations, you blind moron. My sig covers my view on who the real enemy is.

And I would hope regulators would consult with the companies they are regulating. Should they rely on people who want to destroy said industries for all regulatory language and advice?
