Why don't we just get rid of marriage altogether anyway? It's not worth anything anymore as it is. Long ago, it meant something, now you can get divorced for 300 bucks and a kiss on the cheek. Spouses don't value the commitment or honor the vows nearly as much as they used to. I don't think that marriage should be a legal junction anymore. It causes more problems than it solves. We should just mate up like the animals do. The faithful will remain together and the rest will just float from one to the other like they do already. The institution of marriage is no longer about love and commitment...it's about tax benefits and life insurance. What a crock of shit.

You want to join yourself with another man? ...great. Want to live with another woman? Go for it. If same sex relations is what you're into, by all means, have at it. No one can define your desires but you. Even if your actions sicken others, they don't have to worry about the consequences. It's your life. Live it however well or not-so-well as you please. Our society commits moral suicide every day. Why should a piece of paper that justifies the actions by our society to carry out that suicide make any difference? It's going to continue to happen anyway. If a law isn't passed to justify it, the activity will continue. The gay community will NEVER get smaller because of a law. It will only get stronger and larger, no matter how much we disagree with their choices.

I gather France is headed in that direction now with both civil unions and marriages. Require all marriages that want reciprocity of obligation and responsibility and benefit to be registered as a civil union by a certain date. At the date, any marriage not so registered and any marriage in the future would not be recognized as having force under law. Or simply grandfather all marriages before said date, and require civil unions rather than marriage after the date.

Civil government would have no ground to interfere with marriage.
