Apparently not absolute though. More than one definition...

I guess if none of us intereacted with each other, Jillian might have a point. There are "morals" which have stood the test of time and most cultures. They have become core beliefs, truths for lack of a better term. To claim there is no truth is merely an attempt to let government be the arbitor of truth and a power grab. The left is counting this outcome.

The problem isn't relative truth, which are moralistic principles, but ultimate or absolute truth.

We can say that everything in the phenomenal world is impermanent. I would say tht is an absolutely true statement.

Gravity is permanent. It doesn't have morals either as far as I've heard.

Are truths relative or absolute?

I believe that truth is, ultimately, absolute.
Today, many would argue that truth is relative.

I find that hard to believe. Based on the fact,
there is common ground for most on us on many issues.

Example, most of us would say:
-murder is wrong
-child abuse is wrong
-theft is wrong

Since, I can not really see how these truths would ever
change nor want to live in a world were they did,
I tend to believe that truth is absolute.

As for the rest that is not the same for us, it is only
part of the learning curve on the process of discovery
of the "truth".

Would murdering Hitler have been wrong?

That would depend upon who you ask.

Gravity is not permanent. We don't have gravity in space.

Everything human is relative to humans.
Truth is a human concept.
Truth is relative to humans.

It would depend on when, how, where and period of time

There is gravity in space, it is at a different force than here. Phenomenal relates to us here, not somewhere else. Perhaps you wish to use a different term?

Are facts not absolute?

I see this happening in this discussion.

Participants are invoking relative subjective matters as truth.

Moral implications are not truths. truth is an indisputable fact based on energy expelled and burned into time. it is a truth that I am a human. It is truth that this discussion is happening. It is not truth that murdering Hitler is a good or bad thing. the only truth in the latter would be IF Hitler was murdered presuming it can be verified.

As I stated early on in this debate, I was truthful when I said my first marriage was going to be forever at the wedding. It was also truthful when I stated teh same at my second marriage. Truth present in about statements. I have not lied in this at all. Where is your absolute?

Man on one shore of the ocean: The tide is going out.

Man on opposite shore: Look, the tide comes in.

Those aren't truths. they are beliefs. You believed the marriage was going to be forever, probably with all your heart too. More importantly, your belief was wrong. Everything comes to an end.
