1. On this day in 1814 Napoleon, beneficiary of the French Revolution, abdicated and was exiled to the island of Elba.

This gave rise to the famous palindrome:

ABLE WAS I ERE I SAW ELBA



2. And, on this day in 1689, William and Mary, of Holland, were made King and Queen of England.

While they were Stuarts, as was James II, Parliament wanted the Protestants as monarchs in place of the Catholic James.

As William III, he promised to keep the laws of parliament (a bill of rights), and a major step away from the idea of the Devine Right of Kings....and toward the eventual concepts embodied in the founding documents of the United States.
 
Also on April 11th, back in 1970, my beloved Mrs. BBD joined the US Navy Nurse Corps... Set military medicine back 100 years!
