This is just one of a number of various anti-missile countermeasures systems that employ IR Jamming, IR detection, RADAR detection, flare dispensers, and active LASER strategies.

This particular one is called Commercial-Multi Spectral Infrared Countermeasure (C-MUSIC) based on the broader technical surveillance system known as Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM).

Private industry is always coming up with new Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) systems and platforms all the time for a whole host of offensive and intelligence threats; including the illicit terrorist application of Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) and shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles (SL-SAMs). Some of them have been deployed for more than a couple decade. Variations of C-MUSIC concept have been deployed for about three years. Israel's “Sky Shield,” an Air Transport Defense Plan (ATDP), is one of the more advanced programs using very aggressive concepts and strategies that are both air and ground based.
