Alan Simpson Slams Fellow Republicans For Unwillingness To Compromise

In 1950 individual taxes were very low, so low that, after deductions, most Americans paid no income tax to the federal government.

Now, after 62 years of 'compromise' we see the government at all levels taking the majority of our income.

How did we get into this condition?

Because of asswipe RINOs like Simpson compromising whenever the Democrats came up with a new excuse to take our money from us!

When a theif comes up to you and demands your money in your wallet, it is NOT compromise to give him only half.

It is a compromise when you dont shoot the son of a bitch.

In 1950, there were not that many Americans that made over $10,000 a year. And the taxes rates were far higher than they are today.

Jim, do some research before you post nonsense.

What? You mean that his post was stupid?

OR, I have done the research and the average family, if I recall correctly, in 1950 made around $3000 annually with a per person deductable of $400. Since the taxable income threshold was around $1500 that meant that most did not pay tax, nor should they.

Corporate taxes were much higher as a percentage of the federal budgets receipts and that has shrunk by about 50% as a percentage of the total fed receipts.

Though total tax percentages topped out around 80%, there were so many deductables that if you paid more than 30% you needed to fire your accountant.

Taxation is completely different now than it was in 1950.

Back then, taxes were used almost exclusively to run government.

Now, taxation is largely used for wealth re-distribution.

Alan Simpson Slams Fellow Republicans For Unwillingness To Compromise

Former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) lashed out at members of his party on Sunday, slamming them for their unwillingness to compromise on proposed tax increases.

In his characteristically colorful style, Simpson told CNN's Fareed Zakaria that Republicans' rigid opposition to new tax revenues has hampered productivity and diminished the chances of reaching an agreement with Democrats on debt reduction.

"You can’t cut spending your way out of this hole," Simpson, who was appointed as co-chair of President Obama's Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform in 2010, said. "You can’t grow your way out of this hole, and you can’t tax your way out of this hole. So put that in your pipe and smoke it, we tell these people. This is madness."

If there were more Republicans like this man, I would still be a Republican. At least he's willing to tell it like it is.

Why do you think he's a former senator?

It is easy to legislate from the safety of retirement. No re-election to worry about. No citizenry to satisfy. Yes, Simpson is a brave advocate for the American taxpayer.

Everything you say is qualified in some way. The sign of a bullshitter.

You all can obsess over Grover all you want, IT's the Amercian people telling this Goverment, No damn new taxes until you show us some REAL Government cuts...and not just from our Military as the Progressives love to hit FIRST.

No, it is the 1% telling the government no new taxes on them, get what you want from the rest of us. Time to relegate Grover to one of those roach hotels, and do the neccessary things to create a nation with a 21 century medical system, instead of a 19th century one.
Time to invest in our nations future and see that all that want and will work for an education beyond high school have the oppertunity to get that education, without mortgaging their souls. Time to build an energy infrastructure that weans us off foriegn energy and rewards citizens that become both producers and consumers of energy.

A start would be to go back to the tax rate under Clinton. For everybody. Then a 5% increase for those making over a million a year, whatever the source of that income. And apply the Buffet rule across the board.

Military is our single biggest expenditure, and is way beyond what is neccessary for our defense. If we only spent as much as the next 7 nations combined, it would be a major cut for the military. And we would still have adaquete defense.

Do you take issue with the post, or are you just going to openly weep at the truth of it?

And today many of the very wealthy, including Governor Romney, pay about half that rate.

You didn't understand what I said? I said your post is full of shit.

Unless you can demonstrate that greater than 50% of the revenues collected by the federal government are applied to wealth re-distribution, you are guilty of simple bullshitting.

Who pay's more money in taxes?
A person who earns 50,000 a year at 25%
OR
A person who earns 50,000,000,000 at 15%
Who pays more taxes?

The second he slams Bowles Simpson plan onto the table and orders the GOP to vote for or against is the moment the election contest is over. If they vote for it, he wins. If they vote against or refuse to vote, he wins.

Yup.

Some great stuff on this thread, very appropriate.

Much of the GOP is now absolutely paralyzed by absolutism, and any Republican who dares expose that fact is labeled a RINO, persona non grata. When you have Alan Simpson labeled a RINO, you know you're deep in the soup. As the dittoheads continue to reject and marginalize anyone who dares to disagree with them, the core of the party will continue to shrink. Then, as a result, they themselves will be marginalized and the adults can return to re-take the party.

There just aren't enough committed dittoheads to continue this for long.

I am so glad Obama does not get it.

Sooner or later, I am afraid, this is exactly what Obama is going to do.

I think Republicans should strive to show the same level of cooperation, compromise, and willingness to reach across the aisle that the President and his fellow Democrats do.

We are now dealing with advanced intellect here. And......such an original premise too!

Another witless post from the lone clown boy
