The only meaningful difference between whites' taking Indian land in the Americas, and the Jews taking Arab land in the Middle East, is one of the relationship of forces. As wise old Bismarck said, the decisive questions of humanity are settled not by parliamentary majorities, but by blood and iron.

Namely: the whites far outnumbered the Indians, and also outgunned them. So the question of the Indians getting the land back is moot, unless an Indian super-genius biologist can invent a virus that kills all the whites (and Blacks) while leaving the Indians unscathed. The Middle East situation is more complicated. The Arabs far outnumber the Jews, but the Jews had better military technology, motivation, and social organization. Thus, despite the great odds against them numerically, they were able to expand and seize more lebensraum from the Arab untermenschen.

The situation is slowly changing, as the Arabs fitfully modernize. And radical Islam has given the Arabs a motivation that they did not have in the past. With Iran willing to train and arm Hizbollah, the Israelis finally met their match last year in Lebanon. What a future nuclear-armed Iran will do is the stuff of nightmares.

So the balance is changing, year on year. Israel must try to make life so unpleasant for the Palestinians in the West Bank that they will leave. I doubt that they can do this, but ... who knows?

In any case, eventually the Arabs will have nuclear weapons. So the most likely outcome in the Middle East is a big nuclear war, which sees the effective destruction of Israel, and also of many Arab cities.

What folly! Had the Arabs been rational, they would have welcomed Zionism a hundred years ago, and would have done everything possible to encourage Jewish settlement in Palestine, including ceding them sovereignty of some of it. They could have seen it as welcoming home a people whose roots were in the Middle East, and who in any case were always treated better under Islam than under the genocidal Christians of Europe.

They could have negotiated iron-clad guarantees of good treatment of the Arab minority who wanted to remain in the Zionist state, given that most Zionist leaders were liberal-minded socialists and democrats. Those who left would have been able to get double the market price for their homes and land.

Jewish immigration would have brought intellectual and physical riches to the Middle East: together, Arabs and Jews could have made of the place a new Hong Kong economically, and a new Vienna, intellectually. Social and political enlightenment would have also been brought in, to pull the Arabs out of their slough of backwardness.

But people are not rational. Tribalism trumps everything. Can't argue with that old DNA. So we will probably get a nuclear war.
