A Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

The intent of the thread is not focus on Trump being the end all. I certainly think he represents a new low in civility, knowledge and patriotism, but his "emergency" is just another step on the road away from a republic to
"I'm the only one who can protect us." (yes the fat shit actually said that, and you really believe that you've abandoned the republic, which even Coulter seems to understand)

But we'd never have this crazy law if congress hadn't abrogated its duty under the constitution's allocation of power and responsibility.

And it's not the first time. We'd never have been in Vietnam if congress did its duty. Conservatives used to rue the Imperial Presidency. In fact some still do even in places like the NR that was collectivized in the name of Trump.

But that essay concludes with blaming Trump, which is totally ass backwards (pun intended) Franklin said it. The nature is to want one's own way, but that is the antithesis of Republic.
