As an auditor, we typically try to put measures in place to PREVENT fraud. When we do detect fraud, we use those instances to come up with more measures to prevent further fraud. Let's see if the government responds accordingly. My guess is no, but we'll see.

A national database for cross-checking claims has been upgraded and new reporting measures put in place for "whistleblowers." 1-800-HHS-TIPS and at Stop Medicare Fraud.

In FY 2009, anti-fraud efforts put $2.51 billion back in the Medicare Trust Fund, a $569 million, or 29% increase over FY 2008, and over $441 million in federal Medicaid money was returned to the Treasury, a 28% increase from FY 2008.

Goldman Sachs agreed Thursday to pay $550 million to settle a fraud suit brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission that accused the storied Wall Street bank of selling a subprime-mortgage investment that was secretly designed to fail.

Just last week, Alabama Republicans voted for the saner choice for Governor over the uber conservative, and Rick Barber, the wannabe Republican candidate for Congress in Alabama, lost his runoff election, probably because of his loony TV ads that featured him in a current conversation with various founding fathers.
