2 hour marathon barrier broken

Eliud Kipchoge runs 1:59 marathon, first to break 2 hours

"Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 40 seconds, becoming the first person to break two hours for 26.2 miles in a special event in Vienna on Saturday morning."

That comes out to about 4:34 per mile.

Very impressive feat, but it is a bit subdued given it was not a actual race on a course built for his strengths. But still very impressive.

What do you mean built to his strengths? Were they running downhill or something?

It was closed course, and he had pacers and a pace car. But he still had to run 4 minutes 34 seconds per mile for over 26 miles. Most of us would collapse trying to run that pace even for a short distance. I sure would.
