10 steps to a dictatorship

We're not a dictatorship yet. We still have some more stages to go through before we arrive there.

But, we are currently a Plutocracy which has the potential, given a full blown Depression, to morph into corporate fascism, which of course would have to be headed by a dictator.

lets face it like grown-ups. we left one dictatorship and created our own in 1789. government is a dictatorship with the caveat that a bill of rights and suffrage make it seem more palatable.

we just live in a peachy dictatorship.

we just live in a peachy dictatorship.

There are/were significant differences. Like habeas corpus and the Magna Carta.

But those differences are waning.

Both Obama and Bush have pushed the unitary executive with the full force of their position. Both have appointed justices who support the unitary exec, both have promoted dozens of the very same policies that expand the powers of the president.

They might as well be the same beast with two heads when it comes to their drive to increase the power of the president.

Let's not forget about the crazs.

Oh it goes way deeper than that. TSA, unwarranted wiretapping of all electronic media, patriot act, secret searches, habeas corpus and posse comatatus under assault, state of emergency extensions, crowd control weapons system, cointelpro infiltration of groups like the tea party extremists and antiwar demonstrators. Not to even mention Obama's forays into extra legal bankruptcy arrangements and his assumed powers to fire privately employed CEOs.

The rule of law itself is subject to the discretion of the executive. Who is above the law. The rights of citizens can now be enulled by the executive. And the list goes on and on and on.

Our elections are no longer trustworthy.

And Americans just don't get it.

We have completely laid the path for one crazy loon to be elected president and turn us into Nazi Germany in 1 year.

Good thread, thanks for having the courage to present it.

those differences are promises and pieces of paper. reality is that the government projects a guise of justice and we believe it. we project a guise of civility and the government believes it. take away the justice and out goes the civility. that is the chief impetus of riots. take away the civility and the government will kidnap you at the behest of your snitching neighbors and as much as fry you to death for your trespass on their rules.

this is the knife's edge that a society should live on. it just takes honesty on the part of the parties to the social contract to recognize that fact and walk the appropriate line.

Czars in their historical context do not exist in the US government period. That anyone thinks they do is a testement to the power of popular media. It is merely a rhetorical ploy.

Fear the President, he has czars. Hahahaha

Possibly.

People we need to get away from our partisanships. The Government does not care for the people of this country. They will give justr enough to make the people move the way they want them to move. Here are 10 steps you do not have to respond just look at the steps and ask yourself does any of this look familure? Be honest with yourself time is short.

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

While that lame little list evokes emotional responses usually with minor consequences (i.e., flareups easily put to rest and not indicative of any central movement), here's a list that is really scary, and where the Bush Adminisration following the lead of neocons in early 2002 and its guidance set forth in The Project for a New American Century almost led us.

Fourteen Defining Characteristics Of Fascism
By Dr. Lawrence Britt
Source Free Inquiry.co
5-28-3

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

I found an excellent blog that outlined step-by-step how to create your own gulag.

Rick's Blog: How to Create Your Own Gulag

I made one of my own in the back yard...painted it yellow.

I don't think thats what she's talking about.

Create a gulag

Once you have got everyone scared, the next step is to create a prison system outside the rule of law (as Bush put it, he wanted the American detention centre at Guantánamo Bay to be situated in legal "outer space") - where torture takes place.

At first, the people who are sent there are seen by citizens as outsiders: troublemakers, spies, "enemies of the people" or "criminals". Initially, citizens tend to support the secret prison system; it makes them feel safer and they do not identify with the prisoners. But soon enough, civil society leaders - opposition members, labour activists, clergy and journalists - are arrested and sent there as well.

This process took place in fascist shifts or anti-democracy crackdowns ranging from Italy and Germany in the 1920s and 1930s to the Latin American coups of the 1970s and beyond. It is standard practice for closing down an open society or crushing a pro-democracy uprising.

Who's talking about prisons for "enemies of the people"?? Even Glenn Beck backed off his stupid FEMA camps claim. So what Alex Jones bullshit are you reading now?

Have you forgotten about the place you screamed about and said it should be closed? After all obama said he was going to close it this year. The shit is right under your nose and you can't see it, that is unless Bush was still president.

Actually the black guy lied and did the opposite of what he said he was going to do.

SURPRISE! Obama's a politician just like the rest of them

So the hopey changy thingy was all a lie like I said it was?

"Change" is what anyone who runs for office campaigns on. If not change, why bother? Obama, like any and all new presidents before him, thought he could outwit the Washington system. And like every and all new presidents, discovered to his dismay that it takes more than convincing words when you're up against a professional army of veteran lobbyists with fistfuls of cash.

"Craz" don't make policy at all. They're advisers, nothing more.

Possibly.

But the responsibility doesn't lie with the advisers - it lies with the President. The "Craz" don't have any actual power.

You forget obama doesn't take blame.
They have the power toi tell Congress to kiss their ass, and get away with it.

1. Put the middle and lower classes in debt slavery to the upper classes, and big corporations - Obama's bailout, as well as high unemployment, the housing market collapse, and a big reduction home ownership.

2. Control the food supply - Monsanto and a few multi-nationals have control of the US food supply, as well as the food safety monitoring panels.

3. Control of the government - US politicians have to appeal to corporations and special interest groups for money to get elected, as such they own the politicians and could use them to set up a corporate police state.

4. Undermining of the constitution - According to the Obama administration the founders of America wanted a big government that imposes high taxes on its citizens against their will, controls society, dictates what people should be allowed to say or think (political correctness), and censors the truth.

5. Bribe the military and police, and engineer a coup, putting an elite group of people in total power i.e. establish a corporate police state.

^Could do it in 5 steps actually, America is up to 4 now.

Any proof of that idiotic statement? Good grief, I seriously thought you people would become smarter if given a little more power and something to smile about.

And your point I am not defending Bush but obama as lied when he said he was change. When I see obama I see 4 more years of Bush.

I'd be taking you a hell of a lot more seriously if you'd complained about this 9 years ago, or so. Why?

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy

Muslim Extremists want to kill you, your pets and your baby.

2. Create a gulag

Gitmo

Neo-Con Right Wing Radio.

Yippee for Warrantless Wiretapping and Federal Mandated backdoors into Phones, Cell Phone, and Internet Providers.

See the Smearing, and subsequent FBI investigations of Iraq War Protestors.

Been to the airport since 9/11?

Rendition.

Fox and the effort to smear any political organization that dissented from the Bush White House.

9. Dissent equals treason

treason.jpg

10. Suspend the rule of law

Executive Orders are fun. How many were there again during 2000-2008.

Those of us that dislike the expansion of the Federal Government tried to warn you all on the Right not to just blindly support some of the BS after 9/11. It's too bad your knees were knocking too loud to hear it.
