10,000-year-old Antarctic ice shelf will disappear by 2020

You do understand that all waters draining into the sea are pushed by gravity and the Coriolis effect. Thus any system of volcanoes and sea floor tears which warm sea water will be pushed around Antarctica and that nice little peninsula will be most affected.

Then show us the measurements. Show us the heat plumes from the volcanoes.

Oh wait, you can't. Because you proudly made it all up. Just like you make up everything. You're a fraud machine.

And your political party justifies it. You have no principles other than "the ends justify the means for my side". If any big lie gains you power, you love that big lie.

There's an easy way to prove that wrong. Document your volcanoes. If you won't, the classification stands.

Real scientists don't invoke magic to defend their theories. Deniers always do.

You really are a fucking moron... You mean to tell me that its AGW magic that drives the oceans now?

As you are totally a liar lets tech others about your lies..

The Coriolis effect on the oceans.. The atmosphere causes drag on earths oceans. Earth gravity pulls downward on the water as the earth rotates the drag then causes water to displace causing circulation. IN example; take a bowl of water spin it in one direction for one minuet place a drop of dye, just one drop, on the edge of the bowl and watch what happens. The dye will be elongated and pulled to the center just as warmed water will be pulled to the edges of the antarctic. If you stick a spoon sideways in the water that dye stream will be blocked and will force its way around the spoon causing eddies in the water and much like Antarctica's peninsula there will be pockets of dye build up in these eddies. these are where warm water builds and melt occurs.

But I realize a simple science experiment that proves you wrong is way above your head..

Or are you too stupid to understand simple physics? The author of the story at the BBC is totally clueless, is an alarmist shill, despite record ice growth of all glaciers on Antarctica. The region was cherry picked for the melt but they are to stupid to understand simple physics or it is intentional fraud and deception. I betting on the latter as CAGW has always been about deception and theft of Freedoms. 99.5% of Antarctica is growing at a massive rates yet you focus on a very small region to claim your alarm.. How stupid do you think we are? You dam alarmist deniers of science and observation are a clear and present danger to humanity.
Rignot, also the lead author of a study out last month that documented widespread retreat of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, said geothermal heating contributes to a few millimeters of melting annually, compared to rising sea temperatures which can trigger rates of up to 100 meters each year.

That would be meaningful if we were not having massive increases in both land and sea ice..

You really are a fucking moron... You mean to tell me that its AGW magic that drives the oceans now?

So you're openly refusing to back up your claim of magical mystery volcanoes?

That's probably for the best.

Poor little libtard... still cant understand simple physics and circulations let alone where the volcanic activity is under Antarctica.

That ice melt is above the peninsulas four major volcanic systems.. But lets not let facts get in the way of a good left wit rant.. Showing your stupidity is priceless..

That ice melt is above the peninsulas four major volcanic systems..

And none of those are new volcanoes. So why did the glaciers suddenly start melting now? Why didn't your magical mystery volcanoes melt the ice in the past?

The answer would be "You're a fraud". Whatever the topic it is that you're involved in, the answer is always "You're a fraud."

There are no new volcanoes melting ice, yet so many of the deniers are still positive it's happening. They're like jungle savages worshiping their sacred volcano gods. And if anyone dares point out to the savages that there are no magic volcano gods, the savages get very upset.

I also posted an article siting that the Eastern side is gaining ice.........a lot of ice.

And you left out that west side is losing much, much more ice. That's the standard fraud-by-cherrypicking technique that all deniers use.
About twice as much, and it has been losing ice for 10000 years........................How much is due to Natural events and how much is due to man.....................is it .3mm a year................what is that value...............As the ice has been melting for a very long time now.

And I brought it up because it is data your side always doesn't mention.............Nor the Aquifers................nor the increased populations use of water................nor the desalination plants consumption of sea water...................

LOOK ICE IS MELTING................well yeah.........and it would still be melting if we weren't even here.

Really?

This makes the region the second largest contributor to sea level rise in Antarctica and the ice loss shows no sign of waning.

Dr Bert Wouters, a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Bristol, who lead the study said: "To date, the glaciers added roughly 300 cubic km of water to the ocean. That's the equivalent of the volume of nearly 350,000 Empire State Buildings combined."

The changes were observed using the CryoSat-2 satellite, a mission of the European Space Agency dedicated to remote-sensing of ice. From an altitude of about 700km, the satellite sends a radar pulse to Earth, which is reflected by the ice and subsequently received back at the satellite. From the time the pulse takes to travel, the elevation of the ice surface can retrieved with incredible accuracy. By analysing roughly 5 years of the data, the researchers found that the ice surface of some of the glaciers is currently going down by as much as 4m each year.

The ice loss in the region is so large that it causes small changes in the gravity field of the Earth, which can be detected by another satellite mission, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE).

"The fact that so many glaciers in such a large region suddenly started to lose ice came as a surprise to us," continued Dr Wouters. "It shows a very fast response of the ice sheet: in just a few years the dynamic regime completely shifted."

No, you are completely wrong. From about 6000 years ago to roughly 150 years ago, the earth was in a slow cooling trend, and was gaining ice. As we increased the deforestation and increased the amount of GHG's in the atmosphere, that trend has changed to a very rapid warming, and we are losing ice. In fact, we are losing ice far faster than those 'alarmist' scientists predicted.

Which is a drop in the bucket compared to the volume needed to cover the earth.........which is exactly why I asked how much water does it take to raise the earth's volume by 1 inch.

East Antarctic Ice Sheet - AntarcticGlaciers.org

Although there has been rapid ice sheet thinning observed in West Antarctica and on the Antarctic Peninsula, so far, this has not been observed around East Antarctica 9. In fact, parts of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet are thickening, especially deep in the interior, which contrasts strongly with the observed rapid thinning of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet 10. Shepherd et al. indicate that the East Antarctic Ice Sheet gained 14 ± 43 gigatonnes between 1992 and 2011 11. This is because precipitation in the interior increases under a generally warmer global climate 7.

Although most of the glaciers in this region are close to mass balance (input = output), some of the glaciers of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet are thinning and receding. These glaciers include Totten Glacier, the largest discharger of ice within the ice sheet 7. Moscow University Ice Shelf and most glaciers in Wilkes Land are also thinning. These glaciers are grounded well below sea level.

Some models predict that continued climate change will actually result in increased snowfall around East Antarctica. A recent numerical ice sheet model projected climate change and snow fall in East Antarctica until AD2500 14. However, this increased snowfall increased ice discharge around the continent, meaning that it had little effect in mitigating global sea level rise caused by the melting of other glaciers and ice caps, and global ocean thermal expansion. Generally, dynamically driven ice loss as a result of increased snowfall was around 30-60% of the mass gain. Indeed, the authors reported a 1.25 m global sea level contribution from the East Antarctic Ice Sheet by 2500 under the strongest warming scenarios 14.

Well, let us hope that this continues to be the case. However;

Hidden Channels Beneath East Antarctica Could Cause Massive Melt

A glacier the size of California in East Antarctica is in danger of melting away, which could lead to an extreme thaw increases sea levels by about 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) worldwide if the glacier vanishes, a new study finds.

Researchers have found two seafloor channels underneath the floating ice shelf of Totten Glacier in East Antarctica. The channels may let the warmest waters near the glacier to enter beneath the floating ice shelf, causing the rapid thinning of the ice shelf observed to date, the scientists said.

As the ice shelf thins, the point where the glacier starts to float will retreat, raising the sea level, and exposing more ice to the ocean, said the study's lead author, Jamin Greenbaum, a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas at Austin's Institute for Geophysics.
