A 1,000-foot-thick ice block the size of Delaware is snapping off of Antarctica
A chunk of ice nearly twice the size of Rhode Island state is cracking off of an Antarctic glacier, and the rift between it and the southern continent is growing longer and wider every day.

The 2,300-square-mile ice block is part of the Larsen C Ice Shelf, which is the leading edge of one of the world's largest glacier systems.

It's called an ice shelf because it's floating on the ocean. It's normal for ice shelves to calve big icebergs, since snow accumulation gradually pushes old glacier ice out to sea.

But this 1,000-foot-thick piece of floating ice is colossal, and it's quickly fracturing off of Antarctica's prominent peninsula, likely due to rapid human-caused global warming.

wow, utterly shockin
Aha so consider by how much a junk of ice which is 5060 x 0.3 CUBIC KILOMETERS will chill down the ocean water when it takes 80 calories just to melt 1 gram of ice and this in turn can drop 80 mls of water by 1 whole degree Celsius.
Even if you take the IPCC`s exaggerated 3.7 w/m^2 "radiative forcing" for CO2 and compare it with the cooling effect a junk of ice that size will have after it`s completely turned into water you`ll have a problem saying that CO2 is heating up the ocean in the antarctic.
That junk of ice will drop the temperature of 5080 x .3 x 80 CUBIC KILOMETERS of water by one whole degree Celsius in short order while AGW alarmists can`t make up their mind how long it would take to heat up the same amount of water with a heat source that can`t even compete with a hairdryer mounted on a car trying to melt snow and ice as you drive it around in Alaska during the winter

The heat content of the Antarctic ice mass is already taken into account. It will not reduce the global temperature one iota.

So according to climate wackaloons, ice can only warm...never cool.

My comment was in response to the contention that the glacial output of the Antarctic continent was going to lower the Earth's temperature. Are you going to suggest that ice could be pushed into the Southern Ocean and CHILL?

Wow, you are SO-O-O-O-O smart!

The operative word is heat content. You are right the correct term for that is specific heat which is 0.5 cals per gram at 0 Celsius. But when ice melts like this huge junk eventually will it sucks up 80 cals per gram that`s called the latent heat. So go figure what kind of chilling effect ~120680 cubic kilometers of (0C) ice cold water will have on the portion of the ocean it will wind up in.
I thought you knew the difference between specific heat and latent heat, apparently not...

It wouldn't have an effect on salinity or temperature... according to Crick... I am in awe of the total lack of cognitive thought by some here..

And grew and even remained stable.

And became unstable and cracked when it grew to big.

Im thinking this is just a natural cycle. At a 1000 feet thick I don't think it snapped off because heat diminished it.
You are probably right and the alarmists who published that crack probably knew that as well.
The direction of that crack has all the earmarks of tidal bending and that has been well documented in the antarctic:

Meanwhile, despite the denier protestations that it can't happen because their politics says it can't, global sea ice levels continues on a record low.

It must suck to be a denier, always having nature pointing out you're a wacky cultist.

We know all about the sensor drift... To bad you cant call it what it is..
