I absolutely agree that we should bring back trade schools and vocational education. But everyone needs a certain amount of education. In fact, having football coaches teach civics classes is part of why we are where we are today.

Every person needs to know basic math skills.
Every person should be able to, at the very least, read a newspaper.
Every person should know the basics of our US Constitution.
Every person should have a working knowledge of World & US History.
Every person should know the basics of operating a computer and getting on the internet.
Every person should have at least some exposure to the arts & literature.
Every person should have at least a working knowledge of biology, physical sciences, human physiology, basic hygiene, physics, and chemistry.
Every person should have at least one class on the basic requirements of being an adult. How to balance a checkbook, create a budget, change a tire, cook a meal, care for a child, 1st aid, and when to go to a lawyer/doctor.

Trade schools and vocational classes never went away. Do you still think thoughts today. There’s a waiting list to even apply to the vocational school in the city where I teach.

There used to be vocational schools at every high school. I confess I am out of the loop with modern highschools, but I know quite a few that have no vocational schools.

Trade schools are way better than High School degrees. Way better. College is still the better choice but it’s not for everyone. Just like trade schools aren’t for everyone.

Not every school does, but quite a few have vocational programs as part of the larger school. Towns with bigger need often have separate school buildings as independent schools within a district.

There has been a huge reduction in the number of trade schools in public schools since the 1960s and 1970s. That is what I was referring to above.

I think you are using outliers for your analysis. Most companies use college education as a proxy to know their employee have the drive and smarts to do the job they want. College students end up with the vast majority of paying jobs. It’s a fact. Again you can make a fine middle class living in some trades. And some will make it big. But on average a college education earns you $1M more than a high school education.

I agree with you that one can no longer support a family on the average blue collar job which is basically a service job.

Again you are missing the obvious. Companies pay for performance. They hire college grads because that’s the group that performs. Otherwise they wouldn’t employ them. You have a few things to learn about capitalism.

You also have to start the College Grad at $27,000.00 in the hole. It is not a subject that interests me other than the fact that we have a massive student debt that is growing daily, just as is our long-term liability for Medicare and Social Security.
