Zone1 You are a literal child of God

I think one of the most important things to understand in this life is that you are a literal child of Heavenly Father.

I believe that the scriptural definition of a "child of God" may differ from yours. By the scriptural definition, only people who believe in and obey God are his children. I DO believe that everyone will eventually be a "child of God" but not everyone living in this moment is one. In fact, many will die who are NOT (yet) children of God.

1 John 3:1
3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

John 1:12
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

I addressed this in post #17. Yes, as fallen beings on this earth we do need to be born again of the spirit and in this way we again become the children of God in spirit. But this doesn't erase the fact that we are the literal offspring of God and the spirit children of our Heavenly Father.

The question you should be asking yourself is why do you care?
Because this whole "faith" thing is endlessly amusing. The mental gymnastics you people will perform to maintain your comforting illusion are amazing.

You have zero understanding of my faith or the power of my faith. You finding it amusing is a textbook example of the dunning effect and shows your insecurities.

Thank you for making my point.

Are you seeing faith as accepting something without proof or evidence? This is one of the lesser definitions of faith. The first definition of faith in most dictionaries is confidence or trust.

Atheists can read through the Ten Commandments, replacing 'God' with 'Goodness' if they find 'God' a distraction. In which Commandment do you lack confidence. Do the same with the Beatitudes or any parable. Put into practice, none of these teachings are 'comforting illusions' formed by 'mental gymnastics'. They work, thus our faith (confidence and trust) in them.
Reflect on the Commandments or Beatitudes do you not follow. Might not your life, or parts of your life, been better for you or for others had you followed them?

But what about the children of Zeus, Odin, and Shiva?
What religion was Odin before he was turned into a God by Norsemen? Did he pray to the God of England?
Odin and his wife, Frigg, were so very well thought of by the English that today we speak of them weekly. Wednesday and Friday were named after them...

If you want to put up posters with "ten general good ideas for life" that's cool. Even in schools.

Just leave the imaginary superbeing out of it.

The Supreme Being is not imaginary. I know. I shake my head just as much over your "imaginary" as you do over belief in God. It's vital for both sides to remember that each person has strong reasons for their belief or non-belief. You wouldn't want me to tell people of my strong knowledge/belief--and I wouldn't want you to tell people of your non-belief. You cannot prove a non-belief any more than those with beliefs can prove that which is spiritual (non-physical). Respect--from/for both sides.
