Yamamoto Kansuke was a famous strategist and one of the most trusted of Takeda Shingen's famed 24 generals. Despite being born with a number of physical deformities and missing one eye, he was a highly skilled swordsman as well as a brilliant strategist.

Hard to believe the lack of depth perception from having only one working eye might have led to success as a swordsman but that's the way legends work.

Saburo Sakai killed a number of Allied fighter pilots after losing the sight in one eye over Guadalcanal. he was the third ranking IJN ace and, I believe, the highest scoring one to survive the war. Most of his kills were in China or early in the war before allied aircraft overcame the superiority of the Zero.
