When Medicare was enacted in 1965, 9% of the population was over 65.
Today, 16 percent of the population is over 65.
A smaller and smaller percentage of the population is supporting a larger and larger percentage of the population.

It amazes me that people don't realize that incoming social security payments are used to pay those who are already required and that the remainder is use to buy treasury bonds, i.e. given to the government in exchange for paper. The government spends that money immediatly, double counting the money it was paid for the bonds, and the bonds themselves as assets in order to make the deficit look smaller.Yeah, about that...TOO LATE.
