The truth is.....boys and men go to see action movies, women do not.......that is the general rule. As such they like to see men in the lead......and unless you have a successful video game lead in to a movie like Tomb Raider, if you have a female lead, the movie will not do as well...

Exceptions......and we should probably pull up box office totals for stars to see how much they have generated....that would help show my point.......How many action movies has Uma Thurman been in since Kill Bill? And was it her, or the reputation of Tarrantino that drove the success of that movie?

Think of the Resident Evil Series.....female lead...but.....it had a video game tie in that helped drive male interest in the movies.....and Zombies...

Looking at the top grossing Science Fiction movies- the top ones have ensemble casts- not male or female.
