Would anyone go to see a female lead sci fi movie...if it wasn't supported by the words "Star Wars?"

Remind me.....was she the lead in the movie.......?

Aliens was the sequel to the first movie.....and it was a horror film.....female leads in horror films are standard.....

Aliens was also Sci-fi and Aliens was definitely an action movie as well.

And yes, Sigourney Weaver was the lead in both films.

Alien was pitched as a horror film...and aliens had a full cast of Marines that had to be killed before Sigorney was once again in horror film mode.....

That's the point! The Marines got kiled, THE WOMAN SURVIVED TO FIGHT THE QUEEN.

You're quibbling because you can't admit you are wrong. Sorry. Aliens is listed as an ACTION film NOT Horror and Ripley was not in "full horror mode."

Full horror mode for a woman in a horror movie is her running, screaming and tripping to hurt her ankle.

Ripply kicked ass! Just accept I proved ya wrong and quit trying to make excuses.

OP is right, Men have it hard and no one goes to see women in Sci Fi movies....boo hooo

All you proving, is how right I was that you are narrow minded.

We've shown you example after example of women in the lead of action movies and you just try to quibble.

You lose.

You have mentioned a few.......and of those Scarlett Johansen was not the lead, Sigourney Weaver was in a horror film first and then in the second movie she played second fiddle to the marines...until she once again became the horror film lead at the end.....

Look at the box office for female stars vs. male stars...there is a reason female leads make less money...they bring in less money...

The truth is.....boys and men go to see action movies, women do not.......that is the general rule. As such they like to see men in the lead......and unless you have a successful video game lead in to a movie like Tomb Raider, if you have a female lead, the movie will not do as well...

The question is...with the new P.C. nature of Star Wars....would any of these sci fi movies have done well if they didn't have Star Wars in the title? Would these movies draw audience if they were originals, and had female leads to headline the movie?

I think not.......

So.....lazy, P.C. hollywood has to pass off their P.C. agenda like hilary...on the Coat tails of others who are successful......

A recent case in point......Mila Kunis....Jupiter Ascending...true...it was just a bad movie.....but did the fact that she was the lead hurt the money it made....until of course the first showing killed it once everyone saw it was a horrible movie and tweeted and facebooked it to death?
I'd go see it, and I've definitely seen, not really sci-fi but fantasy films and animes with leading female roles, and not recent ones.

Many theaters don't allow concealed carry....the one in Aurora didnt'....

And looka what happened. Crossfire is the answer my friend.

Sigourney Weaver had the top billing in Aliens- she was virtually the only known actor in the movie.

Then why was she the only star who was the face of Aliens?

The OP made this claim:

The truth is.....boys and men go to see action movies, women do not.......that is the general rule. As such they like to see men in the lead......and unless you have a successful video game lead in to a movie like Tomb Raider, if you have a female lead, the movie will not do as well...

When shown that Aliens was a blockbuster with a tough female lead- he just ignores his original statement and rationalizes. We won't get an honest admission that his original claims was ignorant and wrong.

But do we all agree that even Sigourney Weaver could not rescue Aliens 3?

In the end- it isn't whether the lead is a female or not- its whether:
a) They have a good premise
b) They have a good script
c) They have a good director
d) They have a good actor and
e) They have good publicity

I thought Edge of Tomorrow was a great Sci Fi movie- but even with Tom Cruise headlining it, the movie got no traction.

Compare their box office nets with those of male action stars.

I am not saying people never go to see them....I am stating that women do less well at the box office and attract less of a following than men.....and that if the new movies didn't have Star Wars attacked to them, the women wouldn't draw in half as much money.

You are saying Kill Bill or Aliens did worse than say Terminator Genysis? LOL!

And let's not forget, women doing well in Action flicks isn't just an American thing.

Look at the movie that "Kill Bill" is based on, "Lady Snow Blood.'
