The Israelites were chosen for a specific purpose. They were/are to be a light for the rest. Those who live in darkness have seen a great light. And they went through a ton of pain and suffering to bring that light. I wonder if God threw a party for them. Hmmm.
In Jeremiah, the potter does not break the pot. The potter sees a flaw in the pot he is shaping, so he patiently begins again, reshaping the pot. The Good Shepherd had a hundred sheep. One wandered off and was lost, and what does the shepherd do? Does he stay and tend the obedient ninety-nine? Nope, he says good-bye to the ninety-nine and goes off to search for the one. The Father throws a part for the son who runs away, wasting what his father had worked for throughout his life, and the older son who has worked along side the father all his years isn't given a thing.
If you see yourself as the person left in darkness, the pot who has a flaw, the disobedient lamb who wandered away, the son who took a portion of his father's estate and wasted it (only to return to have Dad throw him a party), then count yourself blessed.
