World's 85 richest earn more than 3.5 billion poorest: UN

Ignorance... coming from progressive liberal? LMAO

Hello kettle.....

-Geaux

How did Reagan's "trickle down" theory work? I'm not talking about you, although you try to make this all about you.

This was the biggest lie perpetrated on the American middle class and the poor. The propaganda was brilliant, though because the narrative and motions put into play was just the opposite: it was about keeping it at the top and anything that came down just went overseas. Henry Ford stated that he wanted his employees to also be his customers. Now CEOs just try to find new ways to cut payroll and transfer those jobs amongst the remaining employees.

95% of the clothing Americans wear is now made overseas. You get a CT scan at a local hospital and chances are the radiology department who reads it is in India. Go into any Target or Walmart and find ANYTHING made in America. After Hurricane Sandy thousands of mid-to-low level jobs with the major insurance carriers in the New York area went to the Philippines. The top 1% has sucked the money and the life out of this country.

So you take your fat azz and sit on your pension, Bubba. And let's hope your butt cheeks are air tight.

One big business will create a hundred satellite businesses surrounding it.....the whole community or several communities thrive....you got 'trickle down'....

those foreign people are reaping the benefits of American big businesses moving overseas......we get cheaper clothing etc. but fewer jobs....

how do you think we bring back business and encourage more business in America....?

Corporations are overseas because it's simply cheaper and less regulated. If America can create the same conditions for them they would be back.

World's 85 richest earn more than 3.5 billion poorest: UN - Business - CBC News

The 85 richest people in the world have as much wealth as the 3.5 billion poorest people, the United Nations said Thursday in a report that highlights the 1.2 billion people who live on less than $1.25 a day.

The UNÂ’s annual Human Development Report notes that overall poverty is declining throughout the world, but says worsening inequality risks reversing the trend to improvements in life span and income.

Canada placed No. 8 on the UN Human Development Index, a measure based on education, income, health and other measures of human well-being. It is among the group of nations considered to have very human development, with Norway at the top of the list.

That is better than last year, when Canada placed 11th, after making the top of the list in the 1990s.

Among the nations considered to have very poor human development are Niger, Congo, Mali, Haiti and Nepal.

Nearly one-third of people are poor or vulnerable to poverty, meaning they are not resilient in the face of natural or human-induced disasters and can slip further behind, according to the report.

Eradicating poverty is not just about "getting to zero, but about staying there," said UN human development head Helen Clark.
Call for universal access to social programs

The report calls for "universal access to basic social services, especially health and education; stronger social protection, including unemployment insurance and pensions; and a commitment to full employment, recognizing
that the value of employment extends far beyond the income it generates."

Is it really good that 85 people have more wealth than half of the population of our planet? I don't think so!

Yes, of course it is. I am sure the less fortunate are living off their successes in more ways than one, including handouts, employment and charitable organizations. Mark Zuckerberg soon to be up there with them all.

Facebook Gain Makes Zuckerberg Wealthier Than Google Guys - Bloomberg

Mark Zuckerberg is now richer than Google Inc. co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

The Facebook Inc. chairman added $1.6 billion to his fortune today after the worldÂ’s largest social network closed at a record. The surge elevated the 30-year-oldÂ’s net worth to $33.3 billion, moving him past Brin, 40, and Page, 41, as well as Amazon.com Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos, 50, on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Zuckerberg is No. 16 on the ranking. The Google founders are 17th and 18th. Bezos occupies the 20th spot.

“He’s just getting started,” David Kirkpatrick, author of “The Facebook Effect,” said in a telephone interview. “He’s going to become the richest person on the planet.”

Is it really good that 85 people have more wealth than half of the population of our planet? I don't think so!

Of course you don't! Because YOU are like a jackal. You ONLY see that little piece of meat and YOU tear away at it then when
you eat it you claw and tear a piece from the other jackal. Pack of wild jackals only way they know is to destroy what others have.
Why are you not smart enough... intelligent enough to in your own space develop your own piece and make it grow!
Plain and simple vice known as Jealousy is what people like you suffer from!
Most of the 3.5 billion don't know or have the luxury of doing what you do ...complain about your share!
So why don't you and other jackals make your own million! Make your own way. Then do as the 85 people do give billions away!
You don't mention that do you?
YOU don't mention the following:
95.4% of households give to charity.

The average annual household contribution is $2,9742.

...............

Do something other then complain!!!

Oh, so then you're saying Obama's America is doing quite well! All that noise about Obama ruining this country....tsk, tsk.. I knew it was just a lot of rightwing propaganda.

I mean, if 95% of all American households are giving to charity, then we've got disposable income coming out our collective ass.

America is doing GREAT IN SPITE of a President who is ON RECORD as saying:
The world can't understand why Americans haven't figured out that when Obama said he preferred a single payer system... THAT MEANS Obama favors 1,300 health insurance companies go out of business that pay $100 billion a year in taxes and employ over 400,000 people...
Obama is working to DESTROY that industry!

The world can't figure out why Americans are happy with a President that has clearly stated he wants higher gas prices.
I'd like higher gas prices, just not so quickly" LiveLeak.com - Obama: Id like higher gas prices, just not so quickly

What kind of growth would we have if Obama didn't fight and confront oil producers with fewer leases on Federal land?

And Obama clearly stated he wants utility companies to go bankrupt and utility rates to skyrocket!
The world scratches it's head and says Are Americans really that stupid??

And I agree with the world! How can many Americans like you be so stupid?
In spite of Obama's ineptness our country WAS growing but NOW his stupid plan to destroy has :
U.S. GDP Dropped 2.9% In The First Quarter 2014, Down! DOWN nearly 2.9%... folks another lost quarter means RECESSION!!!

Don't understand why the left keeps bring up what the rich make over the poor as if there never was a difference. Then on the next hand the left will tell us trickle down doesn't work. So what is it, the rich, by making more, are somehow ripping off the poor, or trickle down does actually work?

Actually, it really is the funneling of more money to the top.

I posted a couple of months ago about the difference between the Forbes Top Ten in the mid 1980s compare to today. Ross Perot was like number 1 or 2 with a worth of $2B. Now Bill Gates and Warren Buffett hold those spots at $72B and $58B respectively.

Even taking inflation into account, the difference is absolutely stunning: Gates would be worth a mere $36B and Ross Perot a paltry $4B.

Did any of them force you to buy their product?

the left doesn't really care.....they keep bringing up the rich/poor theme in the media in order to propagandize and push Socialism on all of us 'poor' people....

I like how the conservatives don't see anything wrong with this.

people honestly making gobs of money is no problemo....

but when business and government conspire that is a different matter entirely....

Easy. For starters, get this under control:

STUDY: 70% OF FORTUNE 500 COMPANIES USED TAX HAVENS IN 2013

30 companies booked more cash offshore than others combined

THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2014
Washington, June 5 – Tax loopholes encouraged more than 70 percent of Fortune 500 companies to maintain subsidiaries in offshore tax havens as of 2013, according to “Offshore Shell Games,” released today by the U.S. PIRG Education Fund and Citizens For Tax Justice. Collectively, the companies reported booking nearly $2 trillion offshore for tax purposes, with just 30 companies accounting for 62 percent of the total, or $1.2 trillion.

[That's $2,000,000,000,000 out of OUR ECONOMY right there!]

Key findings of the report include:

- At least 362 Fortune 500 companies operate subsidiaries in tax haven jurisdictions, as of 2013. All told, these companies maintain at least 7,827 tax haven subsidiaries. The 30 companies with the most money booked offshore for tax purposes collectively operate 1,357 tax haven subsidiaries.

- Approximately 64 percent of the companies with tax haven subsidiaries had subsidiaries in Bermuda or the Cayman Islands. The profits that American multinationals collectively claim to earn in these island nations’ totals 1,643 percent and 1,600 percent, respectively of each country’s entire yearly economic output.

- The 30 companies with the most money booked offshore for tax purposes collectively hold nearly $1.2 trillion overseas. That is 62 percent of the nearly $2 trillion that Fortune 500 companies together report holding offshore.

- Only 55 companies disclose the amount they would expect to pay in U.S. taxes if they didn’t report profits offshore for tax purposes. All told, these 55 companies would collectively owe $147.5 billion in additional federal taxes, equal to the entire state budgets of California, Virginia, and Indiana combined. The average tax rate the 55 companies currently pay to other countries on this income is a mere 6.7 percent, implying that most of it is booked to tax havens.

Well that;s what you get when you tax people, regulate people unconditionally and build infrastructure with money stolen from the people.

You get a poorer or just poor populous that has very low quality of education and crushing debt put upon them as well.

Lets get rid of the income tax and break down the walls of wealth concentration rather than implementing more taxes that gave up the greatest wealth divide in world history.

Recognizing that having half the WORLD's wealth concentrated in the hands of 85 people (out of how many billion?) is a ******* problem does not equate to "hating rich people".

There is no problem but only the left with buckets of solutions in search of problems

Hats off to those 85 folks. Of course the human goal is to seek employment with the highest compensation. I never got there but they did. They won, I lost... IOW, life...

So that's how you ignorant Republicans think the worlds ultra wealthy got their money eh?
They went out and got themselves an hourly wage job and made......many, many billions.

Hey go, if you'd get a minimum wage job, that would be a nice increase in wages for you. Put you right up there with the top 85.

While many of the 85 may have inherited wealth, many more EARNED their wealth by using their BRAINS.

That is what ignorant liberals can't seem to grasp.

They are fueled by envy, jealousy and hatred for everyone who is better and smarter than them.

They want unearned equality. They want entitlements.

They rob and torch stores of Asian immigrant mom and pop who have been in America for less than 20 years, while scream about 400 years of slavery.

They are demanding reparations from white folks whose ancestors had nothing to do with slavery.

They blame everybody but never bother to look in the mirror.

15th post
History:

High taxes = Kings or incredibly oppressive Governments. Very poor citizens.

No income tax, = America, greatest boom of people into the middle class and wealthy in the history of the world.

Matt = Progressive, with limited education levels and the ability to spam internet boards with the same failed crap policies he claims if expanded will fix the nation, despite that these policies caused most of our problems today.

Well tell us why everyone should have the same amount of money.

Where did I say that?

Ever notice how quickly they revert to stupid drive-by comments in lieu of a responsible, referenced response?

Republicans are not right but they are also not wrong. The issue is more Republicans are only marginally more educated on economics and social policy than liberals and progressives.

Raising taxes is not the answer, lowering them is the answer, as history clearly proves through it's entirety. Limiting the rich's income or wealth is not the answer, and conservatives get that, they get foggy on how to fix the wealth inequality.

Progressives and many liberals just don't understand economics at all, and they don't care because they believe themselves to be "more educated." These liberals and progressives believe being "more educated" means they magically understand everything there is to know better... even if they never research the subject.

Most liberals that own a business are very closely aligned with the hard right when it comes to taxes and regulation... That's because taxes and regulations at their current levels can destroy a business. I know, I own one, but I'll bet you truly believe you know better than me because you truly believe you are "more educated." Am I right?
