Jesus himself drank wine.

why then are some Christians opposed to alcohol?

I think believers deny everything except faith. Yet believers believe that nothing comes after death.

Believers believe more than they talk.

Left Christians endure less alcohol than genuine Christians/atheists.

Well the omniscient god destroyed the world besides noah and his family. Noah turned into a drunk and god knew he would. He wanted a future drunk(worlds first drunk) to restart humanity.
So, I would think drinking all you want is fine. Gluttony in the bible is just allegory.
