The Mueller investigation was started illegally by McCabe and Strzok

No it was started by Rod Rosenstein who probably had never ever talked to Strzok

What was the basis for the special counsel? Rod Rosenstein can't create one just because he feels like it. There had to be evidence from the FBI. There was no evidence of Trump collusion. There was only evidence of Russian meddling. So how did the Mueller investigation turn into a Trump witch hunt?

It is NOT a witch hunt. Even Barr said as much. Trump fired Comey and then went on national TV and said he fired him because of the "Russia thing." That is reason enough. Remember...there were at least two areas that Mueller was authorized to investigate.
1. Russian involvement in the 2016 elections and the possible Trump campaign involvement
2. Obstruction of Justice on the part of the president

You did not answer the main question of what was the evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia? The answer is probably the Steele Dossier, which was paid for by the Clinton campaign, and used by the FBI to spy on the Trump campaign.
