I think the apathy regarding illegal aliens and a shitty economy and outsourced excuses for hemorrhaged jobs will have an impact but I don't think it willbe the same flavour of conservatism that you are looking for. I'd say, california's supreme court did more for the GOP than the democratic nominees could have done.

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed more. In fact, I could see CA actually being in play, especially if there's a ballot proposition in November.

I'm definitely in favor of gays being able to marry, but the fact is our state supreme court gave the GOP the wedge issue of its wet dream on a silver platter.

Oh I "discussed" it shortly after the verdict in a thread called california fascism (or something to that effect). Not only did I predict an overwhelming reaction similar to the one we saw with Mass in 04, but I mentioned that the federal supreme court would be the next battleground when the issue of banned states having to acknowledge gay marriage AND warned that this is the kind of thing to make the "values vote" frenzy regardless of apathy towards the GOP.


Like I said then, if I were a conspiracy theorist id almost believe that some daft republicans convinced the CONSERVATIVE court to instigate this same issue that had significant results the last time the issue took stage.
