The man in the video (Scott Hicko) lacks understanding of is the importance of FREE WILL. Is God a God who must never give free will so that he retains all power and can never allow anyone to go against his will or he will not be ALL POWERFUL? Are we all nothing but puppets or Gods toys to do with as he pleases and we can never do anything of our free will but only what God has planned for us to do? Does God make us do the evil we do in this world and then judges us for this evil in the end? What Mr. Hicko fails to understand is that God wish mankind to become like Himself. God wants mankind to become as perfect as God our Heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:48
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
If God is all powerful, then why didn't he simply create us to be as perfect as himself from the beginning? Why did a perfectly omnipotent being create imperfect beings? Latter-day revelation tells us the God did not create everything from nothing and did not create everything that exists. In these Latter-days, God has revealed that the intelligences within the universe(s) are self-existing and were never created or made and neither indeed can be. In other words, the part of us that thinks and reasons has always existed and was never created by God.
Doctrine and Covenants 93:29
29 Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.
Abraham referred to these eternal intelligences as spirits but realized that they were eternal in nature:
Abraham 3:18
18 Howbeit that he made the greater star; as, also, if there be two spirits, and one shall be more intelligent than the other, yet these two spirits, notwithstanding one is more intelligent than the other, have no beginning; they existed before, they shall have no end, they shall exist after, for they are gnolaum, or eternal.
From this we understand that the intelligence of mankind is eternal in nature and was never create or made and can never be destroyed but will have no end and will exist after this life. Now if these intelligences are not perfect, then the only way for them to improve their lot is to learn to become more perfect. God our Eternal Father in Heaven, finding himself among all the intelligences of the universe sought to improve others that were among him in the universe. God our Eternal Father in Heaven had figured out that by combining intelligence with matter, intelligences could have a greater degree of joy in their existence.
Doctrine and Covenants 93:33-34
33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;
34 And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy.
How all this was figured out in all the eternities is yet unknown, but God our Eternal Father in Heaven, as a resurrected, immortal man of flesh and bones is able through the process of procreation to give birth to spirits allowing intelligences to be combined with spirit matter to first experience being inseparably connected to element and receive greater joy. We are all the offspring of heavenly parents and each of us has an immortal spirit within us made up of our eternal intelligence and spirit matter.
Acts 17:28-29
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
Hebrews 12:9
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
God the Father is the literal father of our spirits. We are his literal offspring! This is the reason we are call him our Father in Heaven. He is the Father of all who have come to this earth and he was also the Father of those spirits who were disobedient before we came to this earth. Jesus was the firstborn of all spirit children of the Father. Lucifer and that rebelled against the Father in the war in heaven were his spirit children. You and I are his literal spirit offspring. God could not create any of us perfect because he could never have created our intelligence. Our intelligences have always existed and God could not create them. He therefore gave them spirit bodies through the process of procreation and they all became his spirit children. Yet they all had their own self existing free will intelligence that made its own thoughts and reasonings and was free to think as it pleased. Yes, you and I have always existed as a free thinking intelligence. What we all desired was to become like God our Eternal Heavenly Father. God made it possible for us to become like him by giving us spirit bodies and later physical mortal bodies so that we might have the joy he has. Eventually we will all resurrect and have immortal bodies forever and ever. But we also wanted a chance to become as intelligent and wise and powerful as he is. God is giving us that chance by giving us a chance to experience mortality and good and evil. Through this experience we can experience good and evil and decide for ourselves if we are willing to choose good over evil. The purpose of God the Father is to give us the opportunity to progress to become like him. This is what Mr Hicko does not understand. God wants us to use our free will to choose to be a good being in and of ourselves. Nobody forces God to be a good being. He chooses to be a good being of his own free will and choice. You cannot truly be a good being without free will. A truly good being chooses of his own free will and choice to do good and is truly good in and of himself. Free will is so critical to God's plan for us to become more like himself that he could never do away with Free Will.
This was the whole conflict of the war in heaven. Both Jesus and Lucifer volunteered to be the Savior of the world. Only Lucifer came up with his own plan which went against the plan of our Father in Heaven. In his mind, he did not understand the importance of free will. He suggested that force be used and that the whole idea of free will be done away. He thought in this way not one soul would be lost and he would save all mankind. After presenting his plan to the Father, the Father rejected it because you cannot truly become a truly good being in and of yourself without free will. The Father realized that, yes, some would night reach their full potential because of their free will but without free will he knew that nobody could truly become a truly good being in and of themselves. Lucifer was angry that his plan of coercion was rejected and he went out among his other spirit brothers and sister and began to preach his plan. Many didn't like the idea that they could potentially choose evil over good and sided with Lucifer. This is how the war in heaven began. Lucifer and those who sided with him sought to overthrow the plan of God our Eternal Heavenly Father and do away with Free Will. It was fierce battle. Lucifer actually was able to get 1/3 of all the children of our Father in Heaven to side with him. Father in Heaven would not allow Lucifer to usurp his plan to allow his children to truly become like him and cursed Lucifer and his follower so that they could never receive physical bodies of flesh and blood. He also has those who rebelled against his eternal plan of happiness to cast out of heaven. But with forethought, our Father in Heaven would use Lucifer and his minion to tempt the rest of us on this earth to test us in our choice between good and evil. In this way, if we truly love goodness over evil, even in the face of temptation, we will forsake evil and choose good. We will truly come to know good and evil and if we have good characters we will learn to be strong against the temptation choose good over evil. God will never allow Lucifer to tempt us above what we are able to resist. Those who truly want to be perfect, even your Father in Heaven is perfect, will choose repentance and seek to overcome their sins and seek after forgiveness through Jesus Christ and try and make their live be that of a good being.
Another principle that Mr. Hicko does not understand is the law of opposition. If you are to create a law such as, "Thou shalt not kill", then that law will always have its opposite. So whenever a law that is created for the benefit of society or mankind is made, its opposite will always exist. This is why the scriptures tell us that God created evil. It is because if you create laws of goodness and love the you automatically create its opposite, ie wickeness and hate. With free will one can always choose to obey a law of goodness or choose its opposite. Because we are eternal free will agents, we have the freedom to choose God's laws of goodness or their opposite. Just because God is an omnipotent being does not mean he needs to attempt to usurp free will. On the contrary, free will is the key to getting others to become like himself. God is patient, God is long suffering, God is understanding, God knows that we all would really like to be like him. He is very forgiving and willing to provide us a way to overcome our short comings and change into good beings. Let us all consider the extreme importance of free will and the importance of being a good being like our Father in Heaven and always remember Jesus' command:
Matthew 5:48
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
