Will Republicans shut down the Government over Planned Parenthood?

this emergency funding bill is about funding not some crazy bullshit dream some clown has about returning us to 1900.
that was the answer- if you want to defund NPR and all the rest of the stupid nonsense the repigs are adding to this bill then write your own bill instead of holding the country hostage- I suggest you check out the crazy shit the repigs have tried to add -of course that would require more effort than just having limbaugh telling you what you think.

but the dems aren't. They say the gop trying to defund NPR, EPA, and Planned Parenthood is ideological. But them supporting them at all costs, including not funding the troops isn't. Even more funny is that both NPR and PP pretty much gave the gov the finger and said take your money back, we don't need it.
"....pretty much...", huh????

If you're gonna refer to sources, try (at least) to be truthful. The 'Baggers are pretty-much holding-the-line on bullshit-claims.

"Republicans want to block $70 million Planned Parenthood receives each year under Title X, a program implemented under Republican President Richard Nixon in 1970 to provide contraceptives, cancer screenings, and pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease testing at community health centers across the country. And they want to cut off $293 million the clincis receive through Medicare.

Conservative lawmakers say the money indirectly subsidizes abortions, despite the fact that the federal Hyde Amendment expressly prohibits such use of taxpayer funds.

Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., repeated a Republican argument today that abortions are "well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does." He later clarified that the statistic, which is inaccurate, was "not intended to be a factual statement."

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, but it issued a fact sheet today stating that more than 90 percent of its health care services are preventive, not abortions. The company says no taxpayer funds are used to fund abortions.

"It's an outrage to shut down the government over an extreme proposal that would deny millions of women Pap tests, breast cancer screenings and birth control," said Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards."

If you can find (somewhere) that Planned Parenthood doesn't need the cash, post it.
Everyone needs the cash, idiot. It's called prioritizing with limited resources.

Good God. No wonder our country is going broke. We have idiots everywhere.

PP, sorry numbers from '06, made almost $56 million in profits/excess revenue. I think they be doing just fine. In fact, if it were a private company actually providing a service not killing human beings you would say that a windfall tax is needed. Right?

whatever happened to the stupak amendment oh wait...obama care ...riiiiigghhhtttt.Carry on.

The democrats didn't write a budget, they had the house the senate and the wh,, but they didn't do a budget, stop whining.

Except nothing I said has anything to do with your excuse. If President Obama and Senate Democrats held up the budget because they want to get rid of oil subsidies and fund gun control programs, I would love to see the reaction on here. I can tell you that the same people making excuses for the GOP such as yourself would not be making excuses for the Dems. In fact, I'm willing to bet that some would even call for President Obama's impeachment.

Makes me glad to avoid the partisan bickering as much as I do these days.

They believe in all those things but will not do it because it would be the swiftest case of political suicide ever, thank you, drive thru.........

Has any democrat insisting that abortion is not covered under planned parenthood and not an issue in financing planned parenthood with federal funding ever been to the planned parenthood home page where the second category down is abortion?

Let PP get its own funding like the rest of the business world has to do. After all, abortion is a business. You simply want us to keep funding abortion with some kind of an emotional plea that if we don't fund abortions there will be more abortions.

What kind of left wing garbage is that?

Where does the federal Government currently fund abortions?

From the mouth of your own horse:

National Abortion Federation: Common Questions and Myths about Abortion

Q. Does military insurance cover the cost of an abortion?
A. At this time, military health plans cover abortion only in cases of life endangerment.

Q. Does Medicaid or other state-assisted health insurance cover the cost of an abortion?
A. Medicaid is only required to cover abortion in cases of rape, incest, or life endangerment. However, some states do cover abortion as part of their Medicaid policies.

Medicaid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medicaid is the United States health program for people and families with low incomes and resources. It is a means-tested program that is jointly funded by the state and federal governments, and is managed by the states.[1] Among the groups of people served by Medicaid are certain U.S. citizens and resident aliens, including low-income adults and their children, and people with certain disabilities. Poverty alone does not necessarily qualify someone for Medicaid. Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical and health-related services for people with limited income in the United States.

Contrary to that generalization, abortions paid for by Medicaid still must meet medical circumstances.

The Heart of the Matter: Public Funding of Abortion for Poor Women in the United States
(At the state level, 17 states currently have a policy to use their own funds to pay for all or most medically necessary abortions sought by Medicaid recipients; see table below.) In addition, over the years, Congress has enacted legislation essentially banning abortion funding for other large groups of Americans dependent on the federal government for their health care or health insurance, ranging from federal employees and military personnel to women in federal prisons and low-income residents of the District of Columbia (see box).

So? It is still funded by the Federal Government which you guys mistakenly claim does not happen. In fact, I think some on this thread have even said it was illegal for the government to do so, which is clearly not the case.

But what about the childreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn (my best Oddball hyperbole imitation) who will be born into misery?

Almost all county health departments provide family planning and birth control for low income participants. Giving money to planned parenthood to duplicate those services that are provided by state and county governments is a waste of money we don't have. People seem to forget that we are BORROWING a lot of the money we're spending.

Sure. Ever walked into a county welfare office to see what a zoo it is? They hardly offer family "planning." It's more like how-fast-can-I-get-this-lowlife-out-of-my-office. Here's some condoms to hold you over. There may be some states that offer those services separately from all the other applicants for other social programs, but not in my state. It's all under one tent. And ours is one of the better administered ones.

So, we should BORROW money to give to Planned Parenthood because it's a hassle to go to the county health department?

News flash: They're ALL covered by Title X financing no matter what the sign on the door says.

Will Republicans shut down the government over Planned Parenthood? - The Week

Another night of budget talks failed to produce a deal acceptable to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). Reid said that money isn't the holdup, but rather the GOP's "line in the sand" over its hundreds of policy amendments, especially those to defund Planned Parenthood and curb EPA enforcement. Such big policy issues "have no place on a budget bill," Reid said. Could the government really shut down over Planned Parenthood?

Intellectually dishonest. It's larger than that.

I'm pretty sure that other entities provide abortions. PP can still provide them, if they want. They will just have to cut services in other areas. just like those who have lost their salaries - they have to adjust their budgets.

Reality doesn't always suck, but it does make life more challenging much of the time.

Money's been worked out? It's just planned parenthood? Riiiggghhhhtt. You're obviously not following what's going on, so you shouldn't even be posting on this until you read up on it much less starting threads on it.

No actually it hasn't. What's coming out of the Republicans is vague generalizations about radical cuts and changes to some rather big programs a great deal of people depend on. But the bottom line, seems to be, that they want to get rid of the EPA, Planned Parenthood, privatize Medicare/Medicaid and cut SSI. Democrats seem to have capitulated on cutting money..which is completely foolish. The type of cuts the Republicans want to do, don't really do much but cover the Tax cuts. That's ridiculous.

That's not a problem. Jan Brewer's health care policy is die..and die quickly.

So it all works out.

They get born..then die soon after that..

Problem solved.

No longer providing tax dollars for a non-profit business focusing on abortion is not getting rid of it. Just as I say that making abortions illegal will not end (or even significantly reduce) abortions, if those tax dollars are not given to Planned Parenthood, they are not going to go away.

What it will do is stop forcing those who strongly oppose abortion from having to fund it through PP.

Yeah, obviously Republicans hate babies and children. I mean, that sort of inanity has gotten so far before, why not again?

Since it's only "chump change" then Planned Parenthood will no doubt be able to replace that funding from a private source. Are you telling us that the Democrats are willing to shut the government down over "chump change"?

Are the Republicans willing to shut down the government over an issue that's already the law, and also the law that abortion can't be funded with federal money anyway?
And if congress passes it, and P-BO vetoes it... who shut the government down again?

Don't be a tool.

You're kidding, I hope. In the case of government shut-downs, it's been the obstructionists who take the blame, not the president. Clinton shut down the government twice. He not only got reelected but even in spite of the Lewinsky scandal, left office with the highest public approval rating in history.

Since it's the REPUBLICANS who loaded up the latest CR with all kinds of policy changes, they are the ones seen in poll after poll as being unwilling to compromise, and in those same polls, compromise is what the people overwhelmingly want. Republicans will lose, not the Democrats, and not the President.

You didn't answer the question. I don't listen to Limbaugh. It is a funding bill as you stated. We do give $$ to PP and NPR. We are 14+ trillion in debt. For this reason I think it is very appropriate that these cuts find themselves in a funding bill. Why is this so hard for you to understand.
