Will Republicans shut down the Government over Planned Parenthood?

Love it. Love it. Love it. Shows just how many places gov money goes that it has no business doing. Oh no the poor cherry blossom parade is going to be cancelled. Who gives a f**k. Why are the taxpayers paying for a parade, through a China IOU, when we are 14+ trillion in debt and Obama wants to keep spending. I know SS is going to go out. However, I think I would think it interesting if they didn't because it would just illustrate the fact that SS is no longer their money. It hasn't been their money since the government stole it from them.

but the dems aren't. They say the gop trying to defund NPR, EPA, and Planned Parenthood is ideological. But them supporting them at all costs, including not funding the troops isn't. Even more funny is that both NPR and PP pretty much gave the gov the finger and said take your money back, we don't need it.

First off - SHUT DOWN the gov't. They don't accomplish shit in the first place.

Second - Where was the budget for this FY under the Dems?

Too busy bashing Bush to draft one?

Impeach Obama.

Period.

Will Republicans shut down the government over Planned Parenthood? - The Week

Another night of budget talks failed to produce a deal acceptable to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). Reid said that money isn't the holdup, but rather the GOP's "line in the sand" over its hundreds of policy amendments, especially those to defund Planned Parenthood and curb EPA enforcement. Such big policy issues "have no place on a budget bill," Reid said. Could the government really shut down over Planned Parenthood?

Goes to show what a lying ass weasel Reid really is to claim the hold up is over these other issues -because Democrats had already included every single one of these in one of its own proposed budgets -which means they had once agreed to sign off on ALL of them. Hmm -so what changed if it isn't about the MONEY? I'm sure Democrats agreed to sign off on these issues before and included them in their proposed silly budget as a hopeful means to try and entice Republicans to jump on board with it so they would agree to the far more suicidal drive-off-the-cliff-at-an-even-faster-speed Democrat budget which would require government to spend a MUCH larger fortune in money it still doesn't have and never will - but NOW they claim they actually have a fundamental and "principled" opposition to these issues? ROFL! GET REAL! If anything it goes to show their total LACK of principles and how committed they REALLY are to game playing, demagoguery and putting what they see as the best interests of their party before that of the entire nation! They all make me sick. Democrats did nothing but go on an out-of-control spending spree WAY beyond anything Bush ever did which was bad enough -but Democrats went all out and reached new disastrous records on spending. In the FOUR YEARS Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, THEY increased spending by another 25%! UNHEARD of out-of-control spending spree. Seems people need to see for themselves periodically why it is ALWAYS disastrous to turn over the control of Congress to Democrats and why it is doubly disastrous to do it with a Democrat in the White House. NO BRAKES existed and now we are facing a looming financial crisis.

If we don't get SERIOUS people in Congress committed to real SOLUTIONS instead of the demagoguery and game play Democrats are doing - in less than 8 years the US will OWE more than all the world's currency combined. We will be THE biggest DEBTOR nation on the planet. There is very little leeway in the budget now because such a HUGE percentage MUST go towards that debt -yet Democrats are STILL insisting on a budget that requires our government to CONTINUE borrowing HUMONGOUS amounts of money we don't have and the great grandparents of the people who will theoretically have to pay it back aren't even born yet! That's in theory -because in reality NO ONE will ever have the money to pay it back! The people of ONE nation, THIS nation - will never have the means to pay back that debt if we don't get it controlled NOW!

Democrats are FIDDLING. They are demonizing CITIZENS. Think about that. Democrats who are elected representatives are not dictators -yet demonizing the citizens who are demanding our elected representatives GET IT UNDER CONTROL! Gee, why would Democrats believe they benefit by that. Who WINS doing that? Because it sure as hell is NOT the nation that wins by Democrats demonizing those demanding our government get control of its out-of-control spending spree and reduce its debt. Democrats clearly believe THEY stand to win by doing it -again, engaged in game play and demagoguery instead of being part of the solution!

Since they already signed off on these issues before at one time and Reid claims is preventing a deal on the budget -then Reid should come clean about why Democrats are insisting this is a problem for them NOW, close the deal -or resign as the despicable little anti-American monkey he ha repeatedly proven himself to be. Obviously Democrats WANT to force a shut down because they think it will play out like it did in 1994 and heavily benefit them. I guess they haven't kept up with the polls because a plurality now say they would blame Democrats and/or Obama for the shut down.

Even though the Democrats are staying on the talking points Schumer so eloquently laid out for the Democrat cows in Congress before finding out reporters were listening in -their attempt to demonize the Tea Party is NOT going to benefit them whatsoever. I think they are downright stupid for trying to demonize them when it isn't even a structured organization and is essentially JUST CITIZENS! So Reid and his minions are demonizing US CITIZENS! Only 54% of Democrats think Congress has the best understanding of the problems facing this country -while 72% of Republicans and 51% of independents say the average Tea Party member has a better understanding! So I think Democrats want a government shut down believing they will benefit and both Republicans and the Tea Party they went all out to demonize will suffer for it. And **** what is actually in the best interests of this nation -again. Good plan, a government shut down is bound to change that -even though now 31% say they think a shut down would be a good thing! And that percent has INCREASED too! Turned out to be a good think in 1994 too and the government actually saved millions by doing so.

If a shut down means non-vital services are shut down AND the employees in those areas stay at home -then two things to consider. If they aren't necessary and vital then why the hell are we paying for them in the first place? And it would actually prove again the sickness that is our government and its nauseating bloat and be an outstanding way to clearly see where the biggest and deepest cuts really need to be!

Maybe you didn't know it but I WANT the EPA enforcement powers REINED IN IMMEDIATELY! Obama intends to use the EPA as the means of bypassing and undermining Congress's constitutional powers both legislatively and in its oversight powers. Unless reined in, it will have the power to declare even chemicals critically necessary for the existence of life itself to be "pollutants" and wreak financial disaster in the enforcement of whatever it declares must be stopped or reduced -even if it creates a wasteland of our nation while doing so. THAT is what is at stake here. And Obama wants the EPA to have that power because even a Democrat controlled Congress refused to pass his cap-and-trade bill recognizing the horrific damage it would do to this nation. Obama threatened Congress that he would use the power of the EPA to ram it down our throats against our will if Congress refused to pass it. So the only way to protect us from the HORRIFIC cap-and-trade bill which every scientist said would have zero impact on global warming and is really just a means of redistributing the wealth of the US on a global scale and the means of opening the vein of Americans to be parasited upon by the rest of the world -is by reining in the power of the EPA. NOW

Money's been worked out? It's just planned parenthood? Riiiggghhhhtt. You're obviously not following what's going on, so you shouldn't even be posting on this until you read up on it much less starting threads on it.

Don't ya remember, the only reason we "hated" Hillary in the 90s was because she was a woman.

Funny how things change, but stay the same.

93% of the National Debt was caused by Reagan and the two Bushes lowering taxes for the rich.

Click on the link...

ReaganBushDebt.org

My eyes could not believe what my brain told them you typed. Then I looked at your link and found this bit of stupidity.

The final amount of the senior Bush debt was $4,174,218,594,232.91 (according to Debt to the Penny (Daily History Search Application)), and Clinton became president on January 20th, 1993. Bill Clinton saw $1,553,558,144,071.73 added to the national debt during the eight years of his presidency.

However, from the start of fiscal year 1994 (7 months after Clinton became president), until the start of fiscal year 2002 (7 months after Bush took office), the amount of money paid toward interest on the existing Federal debt was $2,767,282,794,374.59 (Government - Interest Expense on the Debt Outstanding).

Therefore, no amount of the national debt is attributable to Bill Clinton - his policies of higher taxes and reduced spending actually simultaneously reduced the debt and brought about the strongest economy since World War II, despite the fiscal disaster left in the wake of Reagan and the first Bush.

The interesting thing is that the treasury says that the debt went from $4,692,749,910,013.32 to $5,807,463,412,200.06 during the period your link is saying it did not grow. It then went from $11,909,829,003,511.75 in 2009 to $13,561,623,030,891.79 in 2010. That makes that $1,651,794,027,380.04 solely on the head of Obama, despite the fact that your link lays it all at Reagan's feet.

You mean are the dems going to shut it down for PP. Better yet are the dems going to not fund the troops because of PP? It goes both ways.

this emergency funding bill is about funding not some crazy bullshit dream some clown has about returning us to 1900.

this emergency funding bill is about funding not some crazy bullshit dream some clown has about returning us to 1900.

Also, do we spend money on PP? If so, and the answer is unfortunately yes, then it has every bit to do with a spending bill. How does that not make sense to you.

repignicans are against women-always have been-they vote against equal pay for equal work and of course they think gov't is too big and too intrusive unless its telling women what they can do ith their own bodies. And they want to call Democrats hypocrits.

"....pretty much...", huh????

If you're gonna refer to sources, try (at least) to be truthful. The 'Baggers are pretty-much holding-the-line on bullshit-claims.

"Republicans want to block $70 million Planned Parenthood receives each year under Title X, a program implemented under Republican President Richard Nixon in 1970 to provide contraceptives, cancer screenings, and pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease testing at community health centers across the country. And they want to cut off $293 million the clincis receive through Medicare.

Conservative lawmakers say the money indirectly subsidizes abortions, despite the fact that the federal Hyde Amendment expressly prohibits such use of taxpayer funds.

Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., repeated a Republican argument today that abortions are "well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does." He later clarified that the statistic, which is inaccurate, was "not intended to be a factual statement."

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, but it issued a fact sheet today stating that more than 90 percent of its health care services are preventive, not abortions. The company says no taxpayer funds are used to fund abortions.

"It's an outrage to shut down the government over an extreme proposal that would deny millions of women Pap tests, breast cancer screenings and birth control," said Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards."

If you can find (somewhere) that Planned Parenthood doesn't need the cash, post it.

I've always admired David Stockman, a rare Republican who seems to have principles.

My memory - without benefit of Wikipedia, okay? - is that he resigned as Reagan's director of the Office of Management and Budget when it became clear to him that Reagan was only too happy to cut taxes, as Stockman wanted, but would use none of his political capital to restrain spending. I even bought a (used) copy of Stockman's book - that's how impressed I was at the time.

So when I opened my NY Times this morning and found an amazing op-ed piece by Mr Stockman, I read it immediately. (The article may be behind a paywall - I don't know, because I have paid my dues, unlike free-lunch Republicans.)

Stockman believes that there have been "four great deformations of the national economy" since the 1940s, and that "modern Republicans have turned a blind eye to each one." Here's an example:

The second unhappy change in the American economy has been the extraordinary growth of our public debt. In 1970 it was just 40 percent of gross domestic product, or about $425 billion. When it reaches $18 trillion, it will be 40 times greater than in 1970. This debt explosion has resulted not from big spending by the Democrats, but instead the Republican PartyÂ’s embrace, about three decades ago, of the insidious doctrine that deficits donÂ’t matter if they result from tax cuts.

Dick Cheney on Budget & Economy
Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said he tried to warn Vice President Dick Cheney that growing budget deficits-expected to top $500 billion this fiscal year alone-posed a threat to the economy. Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due." A month later, Cheney told the Treasury secretary he was fired.
Paul O'Neill was a good guy and, not surprisingly, got thrown under the bus along w/ Gen. Powell.
