1% of welfare expenses are fraud. And it’s peanuts.

The big fraud is defense contractors. $800 toilets. $500 hammers. 20% of the Budget.

Republicans always go after poor people. Guys like Trump steal millions and never get arrested. But welfare fraud of $1000. LOCK THEM UP!!!
Hey stupid,, in 2023 estimated welfare fraud was almost 10%. A whopping $101 BILLION.

Why do you lie in every post Dragonlady ?

In 2023, the federal government estimated that welfare fraud and improper payments cost $101 billion, which is 9.2% of all federal welfare payments. This includes programs like TANF, Head Start, Job Training, WIC, Child Care, Liheap, and the Lifeline Programs.

How is welfare fraud estimated?

  • The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the General Accounting Office (GAO) produce estimates of welfare fraud.
  • The GAO uses statistical sampling and imputation techniques to estimate fraud in unemployment insurance programs.

Examples of welfare fraud
  • In 2023, the U.S. Sentencing Commission reported that 16.3% of cases involving theft, property destruction, and fraud involved government benefits fraud.

  • In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), state agencies estimate that about $11 of every $10,000 paid in benefits is overpaid due to fraud.

Reducing welfare fraud

  • Congress could consider adding language to the food stamp program that presumes that people living together are members of the same household.
  • Congress could also consider using data cross-checks to uncover fraud

Elon is making a lot of noise nibbling at the edges, and there's no doubt we need to audit and make government more efficient.

But at some point, if he's going to make a serious dent, and if tax cuts are coming, he'll have to go after the big things -- Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security. Then we'll see how the country reacts.
Why would there be a negative reaction to exposing fraud, waste and abuse in those programs? This is what the Dimwingers are pushing, and they just look silly to everyday Americans.

No, he won't do anything that is a conflict of interest.

You going to lie again that Tesla got contracts to thank him for campaign contributions, only to learn that Biden awarded those contracts?

Rachel Maddow Criticizes Trump, Musk Over $400M Tesla Contract—But It Was Under Biden's Watch

As usual, you're FOS.

The State Department confirmed Tesla isn’t in store for that money. The department said the Biden administration had pursued the possible purchase. Biden had signed an executive order in 2021 encouraging government agencies to buy electric vehicles when possible.

The department also said that specifying "Tesla" in the spreadsheet was an error. The statement said that only one company had responded to the offering, and that was Tesla, but that the spreadsheet should have cited a generic electric vehicle manufacturer rather than Tesla specifically, since it was open to any company. It described the bid solicitation as being on hold, with "no current plans to issue it."

There was NEVER any contract with ANY company.

Maybe because Muskrat has no security clearance.
Not even enough for his own company.

That is silly. Obviously there has never been any federal welfare except for ADC and disability.
And the only "rise" we see was to prevent totally economic collapse from the mandated covid closures.
It clearly was flat until 2019, and dipped around 2022.
Not silly, a fact. Here are two separate links that agree on $1.01T spent on welfare programs in 2023

"The United States’ welfare budget totaled $1.101 trillion in fiscal year 2023, or 18% of all federal outlays. Eight different federal agencies run welfare. This analysis pulls information from the agencies to show a combined federal welfare budget. The welfare program listing is shown below. State and local welfare spending is available here."

So BOTH links agree that $1.01T was spent on welfare programs for 2023

If you look at the graph below about $100b of Welfare cost was added in the last two years. How much of that was fraud?
Should the states manage Welfare along with their unemployment and job training programs?

I'd like to see DOGE get Welfare costs below $300b a year, or better yet, hand it off to the States with block grants for job training.
I'd also put back the 2-year lifetime limit on Welfare.
State governments manage welfare programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Medicaid. States have flexibility in how they design and run these programs.

How states manage welfare
  • TANF
Each state has its own TANF program, which includes eligibility requirements, benefit amounts, and how long benefits are available. States can also use TANF funds for other purposes, like job training and tuition.

  • Medicaid
State governments administer Medicaid, a federally funded program that provides health insurance.

  • Child welfare
States can administer child welfare services themselves, or with the help of counties.
State policies
State policies for welfare can vary widely. For example, some states offer benefits without time limits or work requirements, while others have stricter requirements.

4 trillion dollars can do a lot of good for ALL American citizens.....we are talking about SS recipients getting true COLA, lower taxes and more peace in the world.
That's not nothing.
Peace in the world?
We are discussing humans you know.

The amount of fraud and waste for poor people is a drop in the bucket compared to defense contractors and corporate freeloaders. Of course musk isn’t going after defence contractors because he is one.

Instead, Musk, and Trump are going after government departments which were investigating and fining Musk and his companies.

$300 million for Teslas useless armoured trucks. He can’t sell them to anybody else, so he sold them to the government.

I will believe these people are serious about about waste and fraud when they take on the defence industry. But I won’t hold my breath, waiting for it to happen.

Also, you don’t find waste and fraud by shutting down the department and firing everyone. You find waste and fraud with a scalpel not a wrecking ball.

This whole process is to shock is the American public so that they won’t fight back.

Canaduhhhhh will do what Trump tells them to do. Hahaaahaa

My point exactly.
Trump should standardize state policies to require time limits and work requirements, or the state can pay for those.

Why would you uncritically believe such a thing?

Are you related to Elmo or something?

Having a work requirement and a time limit for able-bodied people to cut costs is a good thing.
If the states want to carry them, fine, but they pay for it.
