Will 2026 Be The Biggest Movie Year Of The Century?

I am looking forward to The Odyssey and the Steven Spielberg movie, I think that is Disclosure Day.

I don't do theaters in the US. Asia? Love them. In the US, I haven't for many years preceding COVID.

I think this trend will continue. People don't want to pay to be around ghetto trash.
I stopped going to movie theaters in 2015.

Got sick and tired of all the disgusting garbage they allow in theaters and don't do anything about them.
Hacking shit up, gagging, sucking back snot, talking loud, playing on their phones, screaming ******* brats, etc........
Vile, disgusting, putrid, and a WASTE of money.

I just bought a huge flat screen TV and I wait until the movie is free online, and then I watch it at home.

I miss the days when I could go see movies at the theater on Sunday mornings, and I'd be the ONLY person in the auditorium!!!!!
Then everybody else caught on to cheap Sunday morning tickets and lots of space to stretch out in the theater. So, I just stopped going. Not worth the aggrevation and expense.

I'm much happier at home watching my big ole flat screen!!!!!

With the stacked lineup of 2026 movie releases will it be the biggest movie year of this century? It definitely wont be the biggest dollar year likely due to people's new habit of being homebodies since COVID who just wait for streaming. However the line up is pretty loaded.

What other releases are you looking forward to? Particularly the new and original films at the bottom.

Major Sequels, Reboots & Franchise Entries:

Book Adaptions:
  • Project Hail Mary: An adaptation of Andy Weir's sci-fi novel.
  • The Odyssey: Homer's epic poem gets a big-screen treatment.
  • Wuthering Heights: An adaptation of the classic novel.
  • The Bride: Maggie Gyllenhaal's take on the Frankenstein story.
  • Narnia: A new adaptation of the beloved fantasy series.
  • The Whisper Man: An adaptation of Alex North's thriller, starring Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, Robert De Niro, and Michael Keaton.
  • Verity: A thriller from Colleen Hoover is also coming to screens.
  • The Bodyguard: A Netflix adaptation of Katherine Center's novel.
  • Sense and Sensibility: A new take on Jane Austen's classic.
Original & New Films:
  • Disclosure Day: A new sci-fi concept.
  • The Dog Stars: A post-apocalyptic sci-fi film from director Ridley Scott, starring Jacob Elordi.
  • Cold Storage: A thriller by David Koepp about a deadly organism stored beneath a military facility, set for a February 2026 release.
  • Incidents Around the House: An original horror film from Apple.
  • Dead Man's Wire:
A social thriller from Gus Van Sant based on the 1977 kidnapping of Richard Hall. It stars Bill Skarsgard as kidnapper Tony Kiritsis and Dacre Montgomery as Hall.
  • The Social Reckoning:
An original screenplay by Aaron Sorkin focusing on Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The film stars Mikey Madison as Haugen and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Send Help:
Directed by Sam Raimi, this survival thriller is his first original feature in nearly two decades. It stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as two individuals stranded on a desert island after a plane crash.
Super Girl and Avengers are the only ones I'm interested in.

I've seen the trailers for the rest of them, and I can honestly say "YAWN"!!!!!!

They need to go back to the old storylines of making some good science fiction.
Time travel, passive aliens, high tech star craft, brand new worlds discovered..................

Todays scifi isn't scifi, it's garbage.

I'm hoping that some movies that will come out that haven't been advertised yet, will be good.

I don't think I 've seen that many movies at home or the theater in the last 10 years.

There is so much more to do.

I did not realize that movies were still a big deal for some. I thought the industry was dying (maybe that was me wanting it to die because it turns out a lot of garbage...or so I've been told).

The problem is that the blacks and trailer trash are a short ride away. There is definitely no shortage of either.
The idea of sitting in a theater surrounded by these savages, the stench of skunked marijuana (poverty), and uncontrolled verbal spasms gives me chills.
I take it you oppose the Civil Rights movement and desegregation.

I liked but didnt love either of the first two Avatar's. I seem to be in the minority. Those movies kill it at the box office. Especially worldwide. Im tempted to see in theater for the visuals.
The 3D experience of the first one was really something else, it was spectacular.

But by the second one, the 3D and special effects was not enough to make up for the lack luster story and cardboard characters. . IMO.

I won't lie, I do want to see this last one, I just don't want to have to sit in a theater for three hours after what I have heard about it.

The movies all suck cost too much Ill wait and watch on my big screen TV

Why Americans Love Individualism But Hollywood Fights It

Jan 6, 2026

“American audiences are in love with individualism,” says author Tim Sandefur, "in love with heroes who accomplish their dreams."The Pursuit of Happyness is film about a man who becomes homeless, but never gives up on his dream. Audiences loved it.In the original Wizard of Oz, Dorothy discovers she always had the power to accomplish her dream: going back home to Kansas. But in the new version, Wicked, they focus on the Wicked Witch. They turn her from villain to victim. She’s a victim because she’s green. Her dream is for other people to accept her. She doesn’t have the power to realize her dream, other people do.“Hollywood very often is trying to propagandize to us about the evils of individualism.” says Sandefur. In the recent Wonder Woman sequel, the villain is a man who grants wishes. This threatens the world. To save it, every individual must give up what they want. When woke movies flop, Hollywood often blames the audience. When her new Charlie’s Angels reboot did poorly, director Elizabeth Banks blamed men, saying: “Men don’t go see women do action movies.” But men loved the original Charlie’s Angels, Tomb Raider, Lucy, Resident Evil, Kill Bill, Aliens, etc... In this video, the author of the new book, You Don’t Own Me, says today’s woke Hollywood doesn’t understand what audiences want."

Dumbest shit I have ever read. Wicked is a brilliant retelling of Oz flipping the Witch to the good guy and the Wizard to the bad guy. That makes it a compelling oh shit story. Maleficent did the same thing.

Wicked made loads of money. People loved it.

Your broke ass snowflake insecurity is on display big time here.

People dont see bad movies. They see good movies. Hunger games had a bad ass woman in it and did a zillion dollars cuz it was a good movie. The woman ghost busters was a bad movie. The kid ghostbusters was a good movie and did well. The first Wonder Woman did excellent and was well received cuz it was good. The second was not good. People see good movies. Your insecurity makes you think there is something more afoot. Nope. Youre just insecure.

The movies suck but you'll watch them at home? You can go to unlimited movies at the theater for $20 a month so if that is too much for you I think you may have a bigger problem than movie ticket costs. Shit, I pay $30 a month just to wash my car.

I didn't watch the whole video, I just skimmed it.

But Wicked (The Life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West) IS one of the best books I have ever read in my life.

The original Wizard of Oz is of course, absolute classic, even though Dorothy is a pawn for the REAL evil witch, Glinda.
Like most things that are abolute pure evil in this world, it's dressed up as absolute good, in order to brainwash those with low intelligence levels to carry out their evil agendas, so they can pretend to be completely innocent of whats been put into motion.

But Wicked comes along and shines a light on the REAL "wicked" witch, who is the epitome of what people think good witches look and sound like.

The book is freeking awesome. The stage productions were ghastly, and the movie sucks dead donkey dicks. If I were Gregory Maguire, I'd have sued the holy ******* shit outta them for turning it into a woke piece of dog shit. (talk about brainwashed.......look at all the sheeples that spent money to go see that piece of filth).

I watched the first two Hunger Games, and frankly, I found them boring as all hell. I have NO idea what anybody sees in them, to keep the sequels coming like they do.

Ghostbusters is what it is, for what it was made for. Personally, I liked the all girl version. It wasn't meant to be serious, it was a fun lark.
The rebirth of the original was absolutely amazeballs. I hope they make a few more, cause I really like the new cast.

As a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE ******* Wonder Woman fanatic since the early 70s, I was horrified and sickened by the lousy, abomination of a "movie" they made. They turned her into a ******* killer, which she is NOT, and never has been!!!!
That movie was SOOO horrendously WRONG.........not to mention the horrible casting for the Amzon Princess. DC REALLY fucked it all up!!!
The writers and director said they wrote the story from heresay, NOT from the comics themselves. They all said "We didn't read any of the Wonder Woman stories or comics". They just made shit up!!!!! And they FUCKED it up HARD!!!!

Just had to get that off my chest. LOL

I watch movies at home on my big screen TV and haven't been to a theater since about 2015.
And I don't pay anything for any of them. I pay for my internet and thats it.

January 2026 may have been the best movie release schedule for January EVER.

January is normally a dumping ground for shitty movies. Not this year:

  • Send Help - Sam Raimi’s excellent WTF movie
  • 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - Great zombie revist
  • We Bury The Dead - Great apocalyptic movie from the Aussies
  • All You Need Is Kill - Good Animated Japanese mainstream movie
  • Primate - Sure its ridiculous but a good time
  • Greenland: Migration - Derivative but entertaining follow up but top tier for January release
  • Anaconda - Good time silliness

Still had shitty movies though;
  • Return to Silent Hill - Sooooooooooooo bad
  • Mercy - Haven’t seen. Critics hate. Audience thinks its ok

For what is arguably the best movie release schedule in decades… January killed it… for January that is.

Too many sequels and remakes on that list. There’s such a thing as too much nostalgia

Hollywood’s falling into a rut

You like those comedies. I was over those in the 80's. LOL
Never could tolerate zombie movies. If it comes down to "movie monsters", give me the originals.
Plus, my 'thing" is witches. There are not many good witch movies out there, but the few that are out there are better than not having any at all.

Hollywood’s falling into a rut
Lots of book adaptions and originals on the list thought. Something for everyone this year in my flawless unimpeachable opinion. Lol

Hollywood is losing population in the movie industry. What does that tell you
Hollywood has lost over 40,000 film and TV production jobs, or roughly a third of its workforce, in the last two years, plummeting from 142,000 to around 100,000 workers by late 2024. This severe decline, driven by 2023 strikes, streaming contraction, and intense competition from tax-incentive-friendly regions like London, Georgia, and Canada, has left many industry professionals, including technicians and freelancers, unemployed.

Their movies suck

Exactly.

I have no clue WHY they never pays fans for using their story lines and ideas. I've read a lot of fan made stories in the past, and some of them are excellent. But Hellyweird is scared shitless to share any money with anybody that isn't "one of them".

Naked Gun and Anaconda were decent throwback comedies. But NO. I don’t like slapstick silliness generally. It’s about the only genre I have to drag myself to watch.

2026 Witch movies
  • Practical Magic 2 - (Fall) Sequel the popular original
  • Witchboard - (Feb) A cursed board awakens dark forces, pulling a couple into supernatural terror
  • The Calling Witch - Just came out. Low budget streamer: A brother and sister are terrorized when their late mother’s sinister fictional witch creation seems to come to life
