Movies that, over the years, have gained massive cult followings.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Probably the biggest cult following of any movie ever, as TRHPS has never stopped being shown. Weekend movies, midnight movies, art house theaters........it's never not stopped being shown.............across the USA, Britain, or the rest of the world. The legions of Rocky Horror fans are immeasurable.
TRHPS merchandise and movies have also never known any stopping point.

Lets do the Time Warp AGAIN!!!

The Goonies
A movie made for kids, but the feels, the emotions, the joy and happiness it gives through celuloid is a draw for people of all ages.
It's fun for the younger ones. It's nostalgic for the older ones. It's a memory of a happy time somewhere in your life.
And yes........they are in story development for a sequel of the original cast..........of the living ones anyway.

Star Trek
Sure, they had the original TV show. But it was cheesy. And even though I am a fan now, I was not one of the original show, except for Spock.
But when the first movie came out..........OMG!!!! The updated graphics and filming techniques..........wow!!!! I became an instant Trekkie.
Don't forget about the massive, and still ever growing fan base!!!

Star Wars
For a movie that wasn't expected to be any kind of hit. They sure as hell racked up the fans at a break neck speed!!!
An entirely different aspect of what a science fiction movie is. With memorable characters, awesome graphics and effects, and good story writing........
it's no wonder they have equaled, if not surpassed, the Star Trek Fandom. Of course, whose better and who has more fans is always the big arguement. LOL

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is NOT a cult movie. Most true Star Trek fans consider it an abomination to the series. It was horrible and only thrown together to take advantage of the Star Wars craze.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Ironically, I think it must have been something like 30 years after Rocky came out before I finally sat down to watch it. It truly is a brilliant movie and a fantastic musical. It bogs a bit in the middle with Rocky and Meatloaf, but has a fantastic ending.

You thought Star Trek TOS was cheesy? Yeah, perhaps the 2nd and 3rd seasons got a little campy due to Gene Coon, but really.

Can Star Wars really be called a cult movie? It’s about as mainstream as stream as it gets

Star Trek is a massive cult. The TV show had a massive following, but it REALLY spread far and wide when the movie came out. And has grown significantly with each series and movie.

You are just as wrong about Star Trek: TMP as you seem to be about most things. Among real Star Trek fans, it is rated either the worst or second worst of the entire movie franchise. Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan set the stage for the rest of the movies and the other series.

How the director screwed that up I do not know. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The production was also way behind schedule, and the graphics were not finished when the movie premiered. In Star Trek, to me the first bridge on the original series was the most iconic also.

BAck to the topic, how about the "evil dead" series culminating in "army of darkness"?
