That only applies to Americans who are free. The vast majority of reasons the most ambitious, talented and hard working are NOT rich is because of unfettered apparatuses of massive government and police overreach which destroy their citizens.
So, the concept of "rich or poor" isn't as black and white as Americans would think, at least outside the free nation of America where innovation and hard work is rewarded.

One day when Canada collapses, thanks in large part due to the actions of state abusers, in particularly in big cities in Ontario; this story will be revisited yet again.
The citizens of East Germany didn't realize just how deep the betrayals in their system were, wives spying on husbands, kids and parents on each other, until the fall of the wall. The right to self determination of the citizen is vital, it is G-ds demands for economic and social justice, to be paid fairly and to be free to contribute to ones talents.
Only in America I assure you. Always take that into consideration when assessing the applicability of such advice.
