Our local steel mill built the most advanced hot rolling mill in the world and they paid cash. No borrowed money. They had cash that was earned by their union work force. Sorry to burst your little snot bubble. Mills that invest in their facilities are still operating and blaming the unions is lame. While unions share the blame by making the steel and coal industries decline, they are not the only cause. Hopefully we can see a resurgence in these industries.
The decline of the steel and coal industries in the U.S. was primarily due to foreign competition, outdated technology, and productivity gains that reduced the need for labor. Additionally, environmental regulations and the rise of cheaper energy sources, like natural gas, contributed to job losses and decreased production in these sectors.
