Trump said Canada and Mexico were “taking advantage” of the USA with trade surpluses of $11 billion for Canada and he was going to change that.

Canada’s trade surplus has gone from $11 billion to over $90 billion. The Mexican trade surplus has also gone up but not by as much. Trump’s trade deal did the opposite of what he promised.

Trump can’t tell people his trade deal was a bad deal for the USA. He ’s telling Americans you’re “subsidizing” Canada. That’s a lie.

We sold you our goods and you paid for them. That’s not “subsidizing” anyone. That the free market capitalism you claim to want. When I ship an outfit to the USA, the money I get isn’t a “subsidy”, it’s a “sale of goods”.

That $11B surplus was if I recall, a one year anomaly, intentionally lowered by Canada that year to counter Trumps narrative when he took office the first time.

The global trade deficit was $625 billion when Obama took office and $635 billion when he left. By 2019, that deficit was $835 billion and it’s up over $1 trillion now
