Because they'll show his "fortune" to be largely smoke and mirrors. Once people find out that not only did he suck at being President, but the bragging about being a billionaire was an illusion, only his most avid supporters will care about him. The moment they come into the public sphere, various "news" organizations will dispatch teams of forensic accountants to find every single detail that can be presented in such a way as to embarrass Donald Trump or anyone associated with him.

These embarrassing details don't have to be illegal or even unethical; the threshold is to embarrass Trump.

Think back to the time when Clinton was outed for taking a tax deduction for donating his used boxer shorts to Goodwill. And they LIKED Clinton. Imagine what they will do to Trump.
