Is it possible to get into Harvard if you have a bad freshman year but improve your grades afterwards?
Yes. Sometimes a pattern of improvement can be more impressive than stable high performance. “Hey guys! Here’s someone who wasn’t doing so well, but overcame it!” And if there is a real story behind it it might be mentioned in your personal essay.
That requires Bonafide firsthand proof.
Used to be that every so often a very poor family
had a son who excelled in school. Our Maid went thru
that. She was poor and her one son was a scholar.he got into some
big name college on the strength of his Grades and SAT, I imagine.
But he dint get into no Harvard. That was in the 60's.
After reading George Plimptons very interesting book titled
-
Edie - An American Biography. I learned about Harvard and
and also Radcliff { The Womans College } where Edie Sedgewick
attended. Her Brother and Father went to Harvard and she grew
up in wealth.Edie became a huge party girl and { Harvard types
like Georgetown politicians love cocktail hour }.Edie had no interest
in books and/or learning. She managed to traipse to New York
city and became an almost instant attraction at Andy Warhola's
- Factory - where she quickly became Queen of the Glitter
community. She dazzled as she was also full of energy
care of Doctor Feelgoods and their highly addictive yet
numbing Amphetamine prescriptions.Edie also chain smoked
and drank like a fish.My point being that in the 60's and before
Harvard basically was a Rich Kids school.Very few got in if they
had no relatives who attended Harvard.
Affirmative Action eliminated that Bias. But created a bias
all it's own.
