I guess it's more a long the lines of my question of why a president-elect can't be considered president.

A President who takes office Nov 10th would be a far less effective President than one who has time to put his staff together, and get a proper turn over from the out going admin. The US would be exceedingly vulnerable if the person we elected yesterday assumed the reins of power immediately and ousted the former regime. I don’t think you have any idea what it means to be President the immense responsibility the President has. He’s not taking over the burrito station at Taco Bell
