Why do you support liberalism?

I now have 40 Liberals on ignore, and I am very happy with the results, do you want to, or do you deserve to, be number 41? I suggest every Conservative do the same. We don't need to talk to Liberals, they don't listen anyway.

By liberal I think of someone who in general supports more government intervention in the markets/businesses and someone who (again in general) supports more civil liberties.

So yeah I got 1/2 of those traits. I don't think that makes me liberal.

Oh and I don't like the Dems' health police and gun control laws. I'd wish they'd be more liberal in that regard.

These days, pretty much. I joined USMB being one what one would consider a Liberal that was in the middle of Liberalism and Socialism. Now I'm a Libertarian, but with a lot of the same positions. Just the reasons change.

Liberalism vs Conservatism

Let me say this about this subject: Everyone is born with both Liberal and Conservative tendencies, or potentialities.

Then society, Liberal, or Conservative, goes to work on the child, and the child starts to get twisted in one direction or the other as he/she grows.

The Liberal indoctrination is you can get something for nothing if you whine, and cry, and the Conservative indoctrination is what is yours is yours and it doesn't belong to someone else for any reason. The concept of "sharing" meaning socialism is taught by Liberals and the concept of private property is taught by Conservatives.

The concepts of laziness, victimization, whining and begging is taught by Liberals, while the concept of hard work, self reliance, and blaming no one but yourself is taught by Conservatives.

The concept of a just and vengeful God is taught by Conservatives, and the concept that YOU are your own God is taught by Liberals.

The Concept that your word is your bond and that you honor your obligations is taught by Conservatives, and the concept that morality, ethics are relative values is taught by Liberals. And so it goes down the old familiar list.

This leads Liberals to embrace, no standards, easy divorce, sexual promiscuity of all kinds, pornography, atheism, alcoholism, drug addiction, public begging, criminality, permissiveness, the welfare state, politically correct speech, and hatred for both God and Country, parents, and authority generally. At the same time it leads Conservatives to oppose these things and embrace their opposites.

Now, no one is perfect, and so both sides deviate from their party line, thus fall from grace etc. Thus we have two political parties that more or less represent these two points of view, and this has been true since the beginning of history, and before. In every culture the devil would be the Democrat, and God would be the Republican.

In every nation or tribe that ever existed on earth these two parties have vied for power, and held it more or less alternately. The devil gets in his licks, and then God gets a turn at bat.

Every person chooses a side and gets on it, except for a bunch of sniveling weakling cowards who recoil from this kind of partisan fighting and desperately seek some middle ground where they will be safe from the conflict and where they hope everyone can just kiss and make up. "Can't we all just get along?"

These are the luke-warm people Jesus said he would spit out of his mouth, and likewise I spit them out of my mouth. They are the neutrals, and hence traitors, in all wars. This bunch of ninnies includes all the so-called moderates, of whatever stripe, middle of the roaders, so-called independents, (what's that?) populists, and so on down a list of meaningless cowardly categories. Plus you have the liars, dissemblers and people who pretend they are one thing, but really are another. For myself, I am a Conservative-Believer-Republican, and proud of it. And I wish others would be likewise, just honest.

I lean more towards liberalism over conservatism because i don't believe in government by golden rule. That is, I don't want those that have the gold making the rules. I see the government's role as establishment of a level playing field that is balanced in its fairness to business owners, workers, and consumers. I wouldn't care to go back to the days before the labor movement. I believe the government has a role in establishing standards regarding workers' safety, approving drugs that pharmaceutical companies wish to market, and environmental regulations to protect the air I breathe and water I drink.

We all share many of your sentiments, BUT it is not so simple. Yes, if government was just purely the umpire that established a level playing field then we would all support that, BUT that is not what the Democrat Party stands for. It stands for government choosing winners and losers, and even getting down and playing on the field with its own team, thus becoming both the umpire and a player on the field with preferences as to who wins and who loses. This is the problem that Liberals face in voting Democrat, and the reason Conservatives oppose most all Democrat initiatives. Plus, both sides get bought off by special interest groups such as business, labor, and various "non-profits."

Both Parties are corrupted by Special Interests and Interests other than the National Interest. But, under the Constitution we must choose between the two parties we have in each election. I choose Republican and feel we should work to make it what we want it to be. Both parties, but especially the Democrats, have let Global international business run amok.

As of today, debt levels reached that of our entire GDP. Only a progressive can think that a good thing. Our entire economy is going into the sh!tter because of progressive ideals. The time of the advances of progressive idea's is in its twilight because soon, theres going to be no more of other peoples money to spend.........so its kinda like a ticking time bomb because politically, progressives are going to be left caught holding the bag on economic disaster.


Its like this.............its like the husband and wife who marry and the wife is a bonafide golddigger. Life is good.........all things are swell, but wifey ( the progressive) keeps racking up huge credit card debt. Job starts going south for the husband and they suddenly realize they are up to their eyes in debt and not alot of revenue coming in. House goes into foreclosure due to the impossible #'s with income to debt ratio's............all due to the bigass spending wifey ( progressive). Wifey gets her ass thrown out and crawls back to Bumfook.

There is a 100% certainty that America is STILL a center-right nation............its just that lots of folks in the center have been bamboozled with progressive idea's because its never really impacted them monetarily. But thats all changing now and the wake-up call is going to be harsh as sh!t..........like most people alive in America today have never known. And asshole politicians like Harry Reid will become like the dinosaurs, and the new breed of politician like Chris Christie in New Jersey will be viewed as a fcukking hero. Now..........we may see some riots in major US cities that make Newark in the 60's look like a Boy Scout weekend getaway...........but it's comin' s0n!!!!
