I don't care what anybody else does. That's a Democrat thing. I just care about what I do. Most of my time is spent on the internet where I can interact with other people and watch things I like to watch. Millions of people watch the NFL games. Great, watch them, I just won't watch them. Maybe when enough people like me quit watching, they will be smart enough to get their politics out of their programming.
I don't watch movies, shows or bands for politics. If I want politics, I'll come here or go on Facebook. Seems like more and more people are thinking my way. I understand these award shows keep losing audience all the time. We're sick of it already.
Ask the Dixie Chicks how much their politics cost them.
Ask the NFL about lost revenue.
You're spot on.
There's a difference though.
When I watch a movie, I don't see the actors, or their politics. They are in character, in a fictional world. Right? And you sort of tune out of reality, and suspend disbelief, and get into a story.
With the NFL, they were breaking down that tuning out, by engaging in politics IN THE GAME.... They were intentionally making an issue of it in the game. It broke the disconnect, and prevented you from tuning out of the world, to just enjoy a football game.
So naturally, because they were breaking the entire value of watching sports, it cost them. Dearly. I remember that thanksgiving, when this whole thing blew up, it was the first thanks giving in my 40 years of life, that we didn't have football on the TV.
Same thing with the Dixie Chicks. They made those comments ON STAGE... during concerts. Then they repeated statements like that on TV in the media. I remember watching them talking to some media idiot, I can't remember who, and they were up there "We have an opinion, and..." Blaw blaw blaw.... they kept it up.
People do not go to concerts to be lectured out about politics. They want to just enjoy a concert.
Now if the movie nimrods, were putting 30-second sound bites from Robert De Niro saying "Trump is an idiot, and we need to ban all guns, and ban oil!".
If they were putting political statements before the movies started, then you would see a similar massive backlash against the movie industry.
